Image source problem with Image:Carla Bruni.JPG
editThanks for uploading Image:Carla Bruni.JPG. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 22:03, 22 April 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. J Milburn (talk) 22:03, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for File:Alesha-Dixon-picture.jpg
editThanks for uploading File:Alesha-Dixon-picture.jpg. You've indicated that the image meets Wikipedia's criteria for non-free content, but there is no explanation of why it meets those criteria. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. If you have any questions, please post them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.
Thank you for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 22:46, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free media (File:Secret Diary 2.jpg)
editThanks for uploading File:Secret Diary 2.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:43, 24 May 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Alesha Dixon Leeds.jpg
editA tag has been placed on File:Alesha Dixon Leeds.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image licensed as "for non-commercial use only," "non-derivative use" or "used with permission," it has not been shown to comply with the limited standards for the use of non-free content. [1], and it was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19, or is not used in any articles. If you agree with the deletion, there is no need to do anything. If, however, you believe that this image may be retained on Wikipedia under one of the permitted conditions then:
- state clearly the source of the image. If it has been copied from elsewhere on the web you should provide links to: the image itself, the page which uses it and the page which contains the license conditions.
- add the relevant copyright tag.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. decltype (talk) 20:48, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

- An image of Smith singing the national anthem just isn't needed. Why is what Smith looked like at that time important to the article? It just isn't, and non-free content should only be used if it is absolutely necessary for a full understanding of the topic. J Milburn (talk) 15:56, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
I have deleted File:Alesha Dixon VQ Day.jpg as it was not licensed for modification or for commercial use- both are needed for an image to be counted as "free" by Wikipedia. Please do not edit war to keep these images. The infobox image is replaceable with a free image (in violation of point one of the non-free conten criteria) and it has been long established that images of living people, just to show what they look like, are not acceptable unless there is strong evidence that a free image is not creatable (they're a recluse, they're in prison, something like that). The second and third images lack a fair use rationale (in violation of point 10C of the NFCC) while the final image just isn't needed (point 8)- what does it matter what she looked like on the show? The important part is that she was on it, which is discussed, at length- not what it looked like. If you wish to discuss any of this, you're welcome to contact me on my talk page, but if you continue to edit war, you may find yourself blocked from editing. J Milburn (talk) 16:28, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
- You cannot justify the use of images by pointing to the fact that other images are used in a similar way. Images must stand up on their own merits, and, even if one cover is justified, I strongly doubt three are. The band photo has been tagged for deletion because it lacks a rationale. J Milburn (talk) 16:40, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
- I can see a decent rationale being written for its use on the band page, but why do you feel that it is needed on Dixon's page? J Milburn (talk) 16:47, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
- Yes. In fact, I will add a fair use rationale now. J Milburn (talk) 16:54, 21 June 2009 (UTC)

editThe deletion notice has to stay until the discussion is closed (normally by an admin). You're welcome to offer your thoughts at the discussion. J Milburn (talk) 20:53, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
- That wouldn't be very good form, as I was involved in the discussion. Another admin will come along and deal with it soon enough, one way or the other. J Milburn (talk) 21:09, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
- Every edit (even if deleted) and every deletion/other action can easily be tracked, so it would be quite clear that I had done so if any one cared to look. J Milburn (talk) 22:52, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
I have deleted File:Scandalous Mis-Teeq Cover.jpg. Reposting material that has previously been deleted per a deletion discussion is disruptive, and is covered by one of our speedy deletion criteria. If situations or consensus change, then the cover can be reuploaded. In the mean time, please respect the result of deletion discussions. J Milburn (talk) 20:09, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
- Why do you believe that the image is now necessary, considering it wasn't a few days ago? J Milburn (talk) 20:15, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
- No one doubted that the album had been released in the US, but there's no need for the cover. The original cover is useful in an infobox, but additional covers are only needed if the covers themselves are significant. J Milburn (talk) 20:21, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
- I do not doubt the importance of the release in the US, but that has little to do with the cover. If the cover itself is as significant as you say, why is there no discussion of it in the article prose? J Milburn (talk) 20:29, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, I don't really follow your latest post. What is "fair" and "legal" is not really that important- instead, we follow the non-free content criteria. Point 8 and point 3A are the important ones here- is this cover really significant? How does it increase understanding? And are both covers really required? As they are just being used in a "this is what the cover looks like" way, two images are being used when one would suffice. J Milburn (talk) 20:42, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
- Wikipedia is not written from an English perspective, an American perspective or any perspective- instead, we're written from the neutral point of view. You're missing the point- yes, the single was released with that cover in one nation, but why is that cover important? Again- if it's genuinely important, why is it not discussed in the article itself? J Milburn (talk) 20:53, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
- To avoid debates of this sort, the cover of the original release is favoured- in this case, the UK release, in other cases, the American, French or whatever release. Neutrality is not our only policy- we also have policies concerning non-free content, and heavy use of non-free images is restricted by them. J Milburn (talk) 21:03, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
- If "completely independent in its own right", it should have its own article, and that sounds unwise. J Milburn (talk) 21:16, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
- The idea of releases "deserving" images is a little strange. The question is whether the image increases reader understanding of the topic in a significant way. The fact that the tracklisting is different does not make the cover any more important. Take one of my articles, Over the Rainbow (Connie Talbot album); a featured article. This has been rereleased several times in different countries and at different times- some with different tracklistings. Though the releases are significant, and so are discussed, the covers are not- what the cover looked like with these releases is not important enough to be mentioned in the article text, and so it certainly isn't important enough to use a non-free image (which should, as per our non-free content guidelines, be used very sparingly) to illustrate. I repeat- what is the use of the cover actually illustrating? J Milburn (talk) 21:28, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

(Outdent) As I have explained, that point holds no water. The title track is what defines them- they are both the same single. What does the tracklisting have to do with the covers? Nothing. The change in tracklisting does not suddenly make the second cover more significant. You need to remember we're talking about the covers here, not the releases. I am not denying that the second release is different and significant. J Milburn (talk) 21:37, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
- You're just going around in circles now. The fact that the tracklistings are different is not important- they are the same single, and so are on the same page. I will ask again- if the covers are so important, why are they not discussed, with sources, in the article prose? J Milburn (talk) 21:46, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
- If there was some sourced commentary on the differences between the covers and why that is important, then yes, the second cover image would probably be justified. J Milburn (talk) 21:59, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

editthe bpi are the certifiers, and they have only certified it gold. those site says its platinum selling. platinum selling and platinum certified are 2 completely different things. uk certifications are for shipments to retailers, not sales to the public. Mister sparky (talk) 13:39, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
- you still think that uk certifications are for sales. they are not. it doesn't matter in the slightest how much the album has apparently sold. Mister sparky (talk) 23:00, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

File permission problem with File:Manchester Pride Batty Boy man.jpg
editThanks for uploading File:Manchester Pride Batty Boy man.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.
If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. File:Rowetta performance 2010.jpg listed for deletion
editA file that you uploaded or altered, File:Rowetta performance 2010.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Files for deletion. Please see the discussion to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. Kelly hi! 23:05, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
The article Frank Laslett has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- A search for reliable, secondary sources reveals an insufficient amount of significant coverage. This article fails Wikipedia's notability guidelines for fictional characters.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Neelix (talk) 12:08, 31 July 2012 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:ScottandBaileycast.jpg
editThank you for uploading File:ScottandBaileycast.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.
ATTENTION: This is an automated, bot-generated message. This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:07, 3 September 2018 (UTC)

editMarking additions of content as minor edits
editHi. I've just noticed that you have marked most of your additions of content to Wikipedia as minor. This and this are most definitely not minor edits, so please stop doing this. Minor edits mostly apply to superficial changes of several or no bytes, like a typo fix, not any significant changes to a page's content. Please see Help:Minor edit for what consitutes one. Thank you. Ss112 14:26, 8 April 2021 (UTC)

editHello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}}
