Music For Dog People

edit

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a search with the contents of Music For Dog People, and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: Cracker (album). It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. If you are trying to move or copy content from one article to a different one, please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and be sure you have acknowledged the duplication of material in an edit summary to preserve attribution history.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. CorenSearchBot (talk) 17:54, 23 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Your contributed article, Music For Dog People

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Music For Dog People. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Cracker (album). Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Cracker (album) – you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Everymorning talk 17:57, 23 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Music For Dog People

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Music For Dog People requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a musical recording which does not indicate why its subject is important or significant, and where the artist's article has never existed, has been deleted or is eligible for deletion itself. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for music.

Hello Jaxson1. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat SEO.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Jaxson1. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Jaxson1|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. 'Frood (talk) 01:03, 17 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

I am not being compensated in any way, shape, or form. Thank you.

When adding links to material on external sites, as you did to James Brown, please ensure that the external site is not violating the creator's copyright. Linking to websites that display copyrighted works is acceptable as long as the website's operator has created or licensed the work. Knowingly directing others to a site that violates copyright may be considered contributory infringement. This is particularly relevant when linking to sites such as YouTube or Sci-Hub, where due care should be taken to avoid linking to material that violates its creator's copyright. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If you believe the linked site is not violating copyright with respect to the material, then you should do one of the following:

  • If the linked site is the copyright holder, leave a message explaining the details on the article Talk page;
  • If a note on the linked site credibly claims permission to host the material, or a note on the copyright holder's site grants such permission, leave a note on the article Talk page with a link to where we can find that note;
  • If you are the copyright holder or the external site administrator, adjust the linked site to indicate permission as above and leave a note on the article Talk page;

If the material is available on a different site that satisfies one of the above conditions, link to that site instead. Sundayclose (talk) 15:58, 25 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

The linked site is an historical archive site for South Carolina, it makes no money and offers no services other than historical reference. James Brown was born in South Carolina so the link was to his page. I do not own any copyrights to his likeness or music but I did create the content posted on his page, (verbiage, videos, audio files, picture content. Will these conditions qualify a link under external links?

Thanks Jaxson1 (talk) 20:42, 25 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

The problem is with this website that you linked in the James Brown article. That website copied the information word for word from from another website that has a copyright notice. So the website you linked violates copyright. That makes it inappropriate as an external link on Wikipedia. See WP:COPYVIOEL. Sundayclose (talk) 20:52, 25 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
There were two authors for the Biography, I contacted them and got their permission to use what they had written for the historical website. I will not pursue placing a Link on this Wikipedia page.Thanks Jaxson1 (talk) 21:12, 25 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
I don't think you understand the problem here. First, Wikipedia cannot link the historical website because it violates copyright. Again please read WP:COPYVIOEL. I don't see the value of your communicating with a website that can't be linked because of Wikipedia policy. Secondly, your private communications are entirely irrelevant for Wikipedia's purposes. Wikipedia needs verifiable permission directly from any person, publisher, website, etc. if it wants to place copyrighted information in an article. But that's really beside the point regarding an external link to a website that violates copyright. If you don't plan to link the website in any Wikipedia article, then this particular issue is settled. Thanks. Sundayclose (talk) 21:48, 25 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:Blue Dogs01.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Blue Dogs01.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 20:18, 25 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

@NinjaRobotPirate:
Good evening NinjaRobotPirate,
I have read over your Wikipedia:Spam page and your Wikipedia: Guide to appealing blocks page, both in relation to the reason I was given for being blocked which was “You have been blocked indefinitely from editing because your account is being used only for advertising or promotion.”
Could you please clarify on this so that I may better understand what advertising or promotion is being referenced? The website I link to the artists Wikipedia page is strictly an historical archive website that I maintain and run for the state of South Carolina. There is no money involved, no advertising, no promotions, it is strictly factual history.
I feel it is also important to note that using this same account I have built three Wikipedia pages for three South Carolina artists who did not have Wikipedia representation which offers the additional proof that I am contributing in a most positive way.
I do apologize if I am not understanding the issue clearly, I would never add anything to one of our states artist wiki pages of malicious content nor would I intentionally do anything to de-value or de-face their online representation. Thank you for your time, your work, and any help you can offer me.
Jaxson1 (talk) 19:35, 12 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
Mass-adding external links is often called link spamming on Wikipedia. It's always a bit suspicious when someone seems focused almost entirely on adding external links. You say the website is noncommercial, which is something I didn't realize when I blocked you. However, if everyone added their personal blog or fansite, Wikipedia articles would quickly end up with dozens of external links. One of the other problems is that people sometimes use Wikipedia to get their name into the world as an established expert on a topic or attempt to use Wikipedia gain a foothold for their fringe theory.

Thus, Wikipedia tends to take a broad view of promotion, potentially beyond where many other websites would draw the line. In this way, pretty much anything can be promoted: an idea, a noncommercial website, a political ideology, or, yes, a commercial product. If your resource is truly that useful, someone else will add it. See also Wikipedia's guideline on linking to blogs, which discourages these links unless they're written by a recognized authority. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 21:28, 12 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

I guess we can agree to disagree, it's certainly not worth fighting for. Thanks again for your time and I wish you the best.

Well, it doesn't have to be the end of the line. If you'd at least agree to use {{Edit COI}} to request that a link to your own website be added, you could be unblocked. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 02:53, 13 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
I would like to request that I be unblocked please, one of the three pages I built requires updating. Going forward I agree to use {{Edit COI}} as NinjaRobotPirate recommended. Thank you. Jaxson1 (talk) 15:37, 20 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hello, what do I need to do to be unblocked? I agree to use the template listed in your previous message to request a link to my website as you suggest. Thanks. Jaxson1 (talk) 21:10, 8 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

I added a link to an historical website for the history of music from the state of South Carolina. This link was not for advertisement or advertising, it was for educational purposes only relating to the history of a South Carolina music artist now deceased

Decline reason:

You seem to think the problem is a single link you added. That's not the case. Please reread your block notice. Yamla (talk) 11:44, 25 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Request reason:

I understand that placing links to the historical website was not the proper way to do this. Going forward I will utilize @NinjaRobotPirate: suggestion to use {{Edit COI}} to request that a link to my website be added to a Wikipedia page Jaxson1 (talk) 20:45, 19 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Again, you imply the problem is the single link you added. I already told you this is not the case. I strongly suggest you remove your open unblock request, reread the block notice and all the linked policies and guidelines, and only then make a new unblock request that addresses the concerns. Be warned, you don't have an infinite number of unblock requests and have currently wasted two. --Yamla (talk) 21:13, 19 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
