Welcome to Esperanza!

Welcome, Husond, to Esperanza! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is Stressbusters, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Proposals.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact Natalya by email or talk page. Consider introducing yourself at the Esperanza talk page! Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). If you're new to IRC, you may find help at an IRC tutorial. I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

Thank you!  My first thought was that this kind gesture made you eligible for the same barnstar – except I guess your action isn't random...!  So here is a citation instead:

Tagging blocked accounts

Please don't create userpages and tag nil (or low) edit blocked accounts. It serves no purpose and just encourages the vandal. The block log records the block, and that is quite enough. Thanks. --Doc 22:15, 26 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Gotcha. Actually I was not sure about the correct procedure. The information I found about actions against WoW was not the most helpful I've seen on Wikipedia.--Húsönd 00:44, 27 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Request for help

I am trying to insert these big parenthesis "  " on my userpage, but I am unfamiliar with the code and can't change their background color to #F0DC82. Does anyone by any chance know how to change the white background (if it's possible)? Thank you.--Húsönd 11:13, 30 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

You will want to use a <div>. You could try something like:
<div style="align: center ; padding:2em; border: solid 20px lightgreen; background-color:lightgreen">

This can be seen in use at User:Qho. If you put it at the top of your page, the whole page will havehttp://up.wiki.x.io/math/f/0/5/f05b9384433ec816a1e31380867c3cc1.png that background. If you want that background color to stop so that it goes back to the default, or if you want it to change to a different color, use </div>WAvegetarian(talk) 13:43, 30 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Wait, that isn't what you meant. You just want to change the background of the parentheses. Unfortunately this can't be done. The large parentheses are actually images. http://up.wiki.x.io/math/f/0/5/f05b9384433ec816a1e31380867c3cc1.png and http://up.wiki.x.io/math/b/6/1/b61e6194f9e95597b6e60e30a98ee4c2.png . Request for help no. 2 (userpage layout)

I'm a lame layout editor. I created my userpage while using a big display, but now that I'm using a smaller one, I discovered that my userpage does not resize accordingly (the rest of Wikipedia does). I was told that this is probably due to editing in pixels instead of %, but I have no idea how to fix that. If some kind soul around knows how to correct this and would be willing to help me, please execute any adequate changes to my user page and/or my userbox page. I would be the most thankful for your help.--Húsönd 15:05, 2 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

I use a large screen too, and it was too wide for my screen. I resized the page to fit my screen. However, I want you to check it out and tell me if it fits your screen better. If not, let me know and I can adjust it again. --Willy No1lakersfan (Talk - Contribs) 15:17, 2 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

You're welcome. Perhaps you could become a recent changes patroller and fight more vandalism. Userpage

Sorry for not responding sooner. The problem with your userpage is that it uses pixel widths, instead of percentage widths. I had a go at fixing it (for about 40mins), and had basically no success. However, I'm sure with a little bit of reading at WP:UPH and a lot of fiddling, I'm sure you'd get it right. Cheers, Daniel.Bryant 02:57, 3 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thank you and that's okay for the delay. I will follow your advice and put my learning laziness aside. I really should improve my layout editing skills... Again, thanks.--Húsönd 03:01, 3 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
I am sorry that I took so long to fix the pages again. I went out of town and did not get back until last night. I hope that they look better now. I think they will look better now. I think that I can't adjust the userboxes page much more because of the size of the different userboxes. But, at least the size is manageable now. --Willy No1lakersfan (Talk - Contribs) 14:18, 4 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
They look much better now, thank you so much for your help. Best regards. --Húsönd 14:27, 4 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Help Needed

As I understand u enjoj correcting things arround here. I am a Hungarian. There is a page: Magyarization that is really ofending. Most of the facts are rather propaganda than other. Most of the cytations are not of any scientific relevance (and as we know Hungary are disliked in Slovakia and Romania from where most of the citations are from). There are two Hungarian citations both Hystory textbooks. Neither have anything to do with what they are cited for. The only exeption is the following: 1907 - The Apponyi educational law made Hungarian a compulsory subject in all schools. This also extended to confessional and communal schools, which had the right to provide instruction in a minority language as well. "All pupils regardless of their native language must be able to express their thoughts in Hungarian both in spoken and in written form at the end of fourth grade [~ at the age of 10 or 11]" To me this sais that the minorities only had to study the subject and that they studied everything in there national language. To the contrary Hungarians in these days are granted almost nothing compared what for. eg. Romanians got from Hungary. If we can talk about assimilation it is in Slovakia, Serbia and Romania against Hungarians. My relatives are partly Hungarian and partly Germans who lived in Transylvania. After the First World War all my familys belongings were taken away and they had to flee. Our house and all are land is used by the local people. On paper its on my Grandmothers name (as funy it is), but we cant claim the ownership because we are hungarian. We have relatives that have Romanian citizenship. They got their house back.....in a few months time the house was totaly gone, with two new houses on it inhabited by Romanians. My great grand father finished Military School in Viena (his parents were the first to move to Hungary, they where German). They lived in Maramureş which was multi-ethnical (Germans, Jewish, Romanian, Hungarian). There was no opression what so ever.....if there was any my grandfather would have known However if u look ar the demographics of the city where they lived (Sighetu Marmaţiei) there are none what so ever. The demographics before Transylvania was given to Romania was adout 25% German 25% Hungarian, 10% Jewish (in the countryside Romanians where greatly in majority).....I rally neen someone that sees things neutral..Csabap 03:00, 10 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your query. I have actually studied the relations between Hungary and its neighboring countries through the past century, as well as the ethnic variations occuring in that region. And I do recall reading the Magyarization article. I'll check it again for POV and see if it conforms with the neutrality and factuality that is required for all Wikipedia articles as per WP:NPOV. Cheers.--Húsönd 00:40, 10 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thanks!!! I would be interested to know how a u see things...Thanks again!!! Csabap 10 September 2006 (UTC)
I have finished reviewing the article Magyarization. I did not find any blatant POV on the article, but I did notice that most bibliography is from Vojvodina (Vajdaság). Which doesn't mean that the sources are bad, but they could be a little bit more heterogeneous. This is what I suggest:
  • Tell me specifically what do you believe is neither factual nor neutral in the article;
  • Place {{fact}} after a statement that you dispute. This command will produce a "[citation needed]" sign to show that the statement is disputed unless a valid source confirms it;
  • Use the article's talk page for constructive discussion with other editors involved with the article. Do it calmly and scientifically, provide sources for your claims. Above all, do never resort to trolling or you will not find support for your claims;
Now I must also remind you that Wikipedia does not allow original research. Which means that your knowledge, or your relatives', may not be used to change the information on the article, especially if such changes are contested. You must always provide valid sources that clearly confirm your disagreements. I hope that this was helpful. Regards. --Húsönd 03:23, 10 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thanks!:)I would obviously not use my personal things. The problem is that about 80% of things is just taking numbers out af their context. There are no references to real statistics or to academic text (meaning accepted by the scientific comunity). The two exceptions are hungarian and refer to very few things which are basically neutral. If I would go arround bookstores in Hungary I can find facts on everything. If I search well enough I can proov the most absurd things. The amount of changes needed is too much. If I start any page I would look after things, especially because I know how delicate questions these are. And sometimes it is difficult to seperate personal feelings and the truth. The thing is that there are way more Slovaks, Romanians, Serbs at wikipedia....and they enjoy hearing that Hungarians are very bad and they do not deserv to be here.....
P.S.By the way there are things contradicting to that page in the Hungarian references.....I guess someone had given it before me....but most of the changes have been cleared out way before I was here. It is very possible because the books are University textbooks, one of them is actually only a syllabus...so they are not really available abroad.....So I just give up this all...stay in editing scientific stuff...things are geting really hard to cope with arround social/historical things... Thanks anyway........Csabap 10 September 2006 (UTC)

Oh really

You want to tell me what vandalism you are referring to when you tell me not to vandalize anymore? Huh? Well, I'm waiting. Joeschmoe2003 21:39, 10 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

I mostly revert vandalism from IPs. If you have been editing with an IP, please state it and I will promptly indicate where's the vandalism. If the vandalism occurred while you were editing with this registered account, then I reckon you might be mistaken for I can't even recall any recent vandalism that I have reverted from a registered user. --Húsönd 21:43, 10 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
The IP was 72.197.66.221 Joeschmoe2003 22:14, 10 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
That's what I thought. Your edit does not conform to WP:NPOV. Indeed it's not a blatant case of vandalism, it's more like a POV disruption. But I found your talk page with several vandalism warnings and assumed that the edit could easily qualify as further vandalism. Since you're contesting it, then I'll concede that you were trying to make a valid contribution. I will remove the vandalism tag I inserted on your talk page, but please refrain from inserting POV content in the future, as recent changes patrollers may deem them as vandalism, considering the warnings that you have on your talk page. Last but not least, when addressing to other editors, please refrain from using harsh language as that is considered trolling and seldom results in the best response to your queries. Regards. --Húsönd 22:36, 10 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

RE:Galicia and some thanks for something or other...!

Hi Húsönd!
First, yes, my thanks for this but more so for restarting the whole process. Maybe when I finally catch up on my immediate to-do tasks I might one day do something administrative! <chuckle>
Before any blushing or demurring becomes overwhelming, thanks also for your thoughts here. If Galicia (Eastern Europe) were considered wholly historical, I was looking to pursue your suggestion to make the Iberian Galicia the "Galicia" article – however, have you seen this and/or the like...?  As you might guess, I'm now not sure what might accommodate everyone...  For the time being, therefore, I've (partially) reverted the name to Galicia (Iberian peninsula). Hope this okay. Thanks agin, David Kernow 00:12, 14 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
PS I was going to add some general supportive remarks to your Editor Review, but then thought (1) they might risk interpretation as biased; (2) they might be welcome but not strictly relevant.

Haha. That's okay with the review. :-) Thank you for showing me the POV of Irpen, which I deem sound. Maybe it's better to add the location info after all (btw, I noticed that the article Iberian Peninsula writes with capital P, maybe the same should happen with that term on Galicia). I just made a small change to the Galicia disambiguation page, the link was leading to the redirect page, and I changed "Galicia (Spain)" to "Galicia (Iberian Peninsula)" before any Galician nationalists start to complain. Once again, congratulations for your adminship! Best regards.--Húsönd 00:30, 14 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Re "Iberian P/peninsula", I realiz/se I overlooked capitaliz/sation when returning the article to this disambiguation... Personally, I don't mind which it is; however, "Iberian Peninsula" is a proper noun, which may or may not be accurate; "Crimean Peninsula"/"Crimean peninsula", "Korean Peninsula"/"Korean peninsula", ...?  Yours, David 10:29, 14 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

My Girl

Hi there Húsönd. A few people have noticed your reverts on My Girl, removing the attempt at a marriage proposal. Of course this isn't appropriate content for Wikipedia, and you were correct in removing it. But might I suggest that next time when you're removing content which is inappropriate, but obviously added in good faith, you avoid the use of the default warning templates? They're a little unfeeling, and can give the wrong impression sometimes. Remember we should try to turn good faith misguided contributors into good faith well-guided contributors :) --bainer (talk) 16:00, 17 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Oh, and for sharing in my bizzare sence of humor. Exellent work Husond. Dfrg.msc 1 . 2 . 3 User talk:Dfrg.msc 08:02, 19 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Shine my shoes!
Thanks Bro! I've recently uploaded a GIF of me shining my shoe with a banana peel. This is quite possibly the most random thing on English Wiki. If you see anything more random, tell me. Thanks again, Dfrg.msc 1 . 2 . 3 01:57, 20 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

September Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: Barnstar Brigade
Here in Wikipedia there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go unappreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go unnoticed. As Esperanzians we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. This is where the Barnstar Brigade comes in. The object of this program is to seek out the people which deserve a Barnstar, and help them feel appreciated. With your help, we can recognize more dedicated editors!
What's New?
September elections are upon us! Anyone wishing to be a part of the Advisory Council may list themselves as a candidate from 18 September until 24 September, with the voting taking place from 25 September to 30 September. Those who wish to help with the election staff should also list themselves!
Appreciation Week, a program currently in development, now has its own subpage! Share your good ideas on how to make it awesome there!
The Esperanza front page has been redesigned! Many thanks to all who worked hard on it.

Ace Combat

The article looks crufty. I suggest removing the unverified segments, and then merging the rest of the content to the other Ace Combat articles (though you'll have to discuss it on the talk page first). By the way, this may be a bit off topic, but ironically it was I who added the article to the Ace Combat template. Cheers, --TBCTaLk?!? 03:28, 21 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Commenting about your bashing of me

You told me I was vandalizing Rob Corrdry of the Daily Show on the Daily Show article. Please stop being to mechanical and think about what I wrote. I added two comments concerning some of his most popular and recognizable traits. And considering he has left the show and there was little to show his accomplishments, it's unjust for what he did for the show.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 35.11.236.45 (talkcontribs) .

I just reviewed your edit that I reverted. Although you claim good faith, your edit is clearly inappropriate. In fact, another editor reverted a further addition of yours shortly after my reversion. Please keep in line with the encyclopedic tone of the articles you edit. Sometimes, rather unorthodox content can be added to articles, but this is simply not the case. Thanks for contacting me. Regards.--Húsönd 03:56, 22 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Nominate for featured!

Woohoo!

That picture is the best thing ever. Nominate for featured! Nominate for featured! So anyway, how do you take apart Red Decks? Clerics? White reversal/prevent spells? Creature rush? Counterspells? Bubbling Beebles? That picture is really great. Let's see if we can't find a place to put it on Main Space. Thanks, Dfrg.msc 1 . 2 . 3 02:11, 23 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Why would someone take this picture? To prove that Jimbo has been to Finland? There's saunas everywhere... Anyway, I usually play with a green+black or white+black deck (well, actually I haven't played Magic for more than a year now). When my opponents play with red, they're just doomed. I nearly always succeed in neutralizing their creatures. So they have to resort to sorceries to directly inflict damage on me. But those sorceries are a waste of time, I'll kill first anyway...--Húsönd 02:56, 23 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
You miss the point, it's Jimbo: near a sauna! A sauna Husond. A sauna. Anyway, yes, White seems to be Death for Red, but their are a few ways to work around it (I play with White, Green and Red and Artifacts), but I suppose it depends on what you are playing with, Goblin Decks have more creatures than there are atoms in the universe, and Direct Damage relys on Instants and Sorceries rather than creatures. I agree with your leave of absence from the game, I think although bringing many people to the game, the Kamigawa set has almost killed it. Luckily, there is a good M:TG community here, we play games with our Leigeons Decks and sit back and dream of another Prophecy.Great to talk to you, Husond. • Hey Husond, I just read your joke on the Esperenzia Coffee lounge. It's great! We obviously share the same humor so here they are, some junk I just made up:

What has four legs, is big, green, fuzzy, and if it fell out a tree on you, would kill you?

A pool table [punchline] tity boom [punchline].

Anyway, I got home and the phone was ringing. I picked it up and said,"who's speaking please?" and the voice said,"you are".So I rang my local swimming baths and asked," is that the swimming baths?" He said, "Depends where your calling from." So I rang the rubbish removel place and said, " I want a skip out the front of my house" and he said, "I'm not stopping you". After that I went to the dentist and he said, "say ahhhhh" and I said, "Why?" and he said, "because my dog has died." Most dentist chairs go up and down but this one went backwards and forwards. "This is strange" I thought, and the dentist said, " For Christ's sake, get the hell out of my filing cabinet." So I was driving home and my mobile rang, it was my boss. He said "you've been promoted" and I swerved. He rang again and said, "You've been promoted again" and I swerved again. He rang a third time and said, "You've been promoted to managing director." and I swerved into a tree. A policeman came and said," what happened?" and I said, " I careered off the road".

Santa Claus, on trial....

"Sir, is it true that you called my client, not once, not twice, but THREE TIMES, a 'ho'!?"

"You blasted him into another dimension?" "It was an accident! Relax, he'll be fine til I find him again.... unless he ended up in a Dimension of Pain or something."

Meanwhile

"WELCOME TO THE DIMENSION OF PAIN!!!!!"

"Thanks, can I use your bathroom?"

.............

"No."

A guy walked into a bar, and when he stepped inside, he fell over. He looked down, and saw he slipped on some mess a dog left. He then went to the bathroom to clean up his shoe. When he stepped out of the bathroom, a really big, bulky, tough bikey walked through the door, and slipped on the same mess. As he was picking himself up, the guy said, "T goes in a tea pot."

  • Knock knock
  • (who's there?)
  • Big-ish
  • (Big-ish who)
  • No thanks.

She was making a breakfast of fried eggs for her husband. Suddenly her husband burst into the kitchen.

"Careful ... CAREFUL! Put in some more butter! Oh my GOD! You're cooking too many at once. TOO MANY! Turn them! TURN THEM NOW!

We need more butter. Oh my GOD! WHERE are we going to get MORE BUTTER? They're going to STICK!

Careful ... CAREFUL! I said be CAREFUL! You NEVER listen to me when you're cooking! Never! Turn them! Hurry up! Are you CRAZY?

Have you LOST your mind? Don't forget to salt them. You know you always forget to salt them. Use the salt. USE THE SALT! THE SALT!"

His wife stared at him.

"What the hell is wrong with you? You think I don't know how to fry a couple of eggs?"

And that's it.

Thanks

Thank you so much!

Thank you for responding to my editor review and giving me an extra few weeks on the main page! :) I guess that means I should update my statement and edit count box!!!

Thank you for your kind words. I do aspire to be an admin in two to four months; whenever I'm nominated. I hope you'll take part in my RFA when it happens! :)

Let me know if there's anything I can do for you, whether it's copyediting an article, participating in a request for comment, or helping you out with a vandal. :)

Have a great day!! Srose (talk) 15:31, 24 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thank you very much. It was great to see that orange bar and then finding the barnstar instead a nasty comment from someone else ;-) Asteriontalk 06:41, 26 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
It's only a "tough case" if you have some agenda other than determining the name of the article according to Wikipedia's naming conventions. Gene Nygaard 02:20, 27 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Nice try, Gene.--Húsönd 02:42, 27 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Somehow I get the impression, Gene would accept whichever name does not have a diacritic. I am beginning to use too much of my wikitime on this... Asteriontalk 16:18, 30 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Indeed. I might just start ignoring Gene's comments in the future. It's just useless to reply. And I'm frankly disturbed by the way he prints a stupidity stamp on users who do not share his views. That plus his annoying scorn and occasional uncivilness. Thanks for your comment. Regards.--Húsönd 16:30, 30 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
