Denver Complex article

edit

Thanks for your comments. I've just posted the following on the talk page of the Denver COMPLEX page and re-arranged it all in a much better format (at least, I think so....):

It seems that I was wrong when I first expanded on the article, since there seem to be two entities here. An other editor has created the second of the two organizations noted below:
Denver Center for the Performing Arts, not really a building but an organization and
Denver Performing Arts Complex which is the building in which the theatre and performance spaces are located.
I have revised much of the former to comply with the overall look for multi-facility spaces, to clean up what were purely commerical promotional statements (such as how to buy tickets - easily found on the organizations' websites); and to provide some external links.

Maybe you could keep an eye on these pages and see if no one decides to disorganize them too much? I'll be in Europe for a month and not back on Wikipedia till after 12 October.

sorry it took so long for me to reply but i have been away for a while. first, I want to tell you that there is a lot of wrong information on almost any topic that you can read upon on the internet and in books written for lay people by lay people. If you want to read the most accurate portrayal of anything, you need to read it from people who make it their career to study this sort of phenomenon. Read from sources that are academic professors and not books writen by lay people. For sure, do not read about it on the internet. Peer reviewed journals are best, then books, then encyclopedias in that order. Wikipedia, unfortunately, really is not an encyclopedia so much as it is a website that anyone can write anything about. You end up with an article that is a mishmash of some truth and untruth along with lots of biases. Second, the people who have written about this are Meir Shahar (a new book in 2007), stanley henning, Tang Ho, Matsuda Ryuchi, William CC Hu, etc. Go to the JSTOR website and look up bodhidharma and martial arts or bodhidharma legend, and you will come up with some old peer reviewed journal articles. Also, Meir Shahar who is a faculty member in israel but trained at harvard is the most recent person to write about martial arts and religion. Whatever you do, do not read books written by someone who is a "kung fu" master or "si fu, black belt" which are laden with errors. My friend, the user JFD, who has written quite a few articles on wikipedia knows a lot and is a good source. I hope that this helps. Kennethtennyson 23:34, 13 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

well, his new book is coming out and that should be a good read. Have fun in israel. Kennethtennyson 18:19, 12 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sorry in advance for the uninvited message. If you are interested in Chinese culture and martial arts then try this. Articles like The Sound of the One Hand are a good start. You should also try and get a copy of the Lotus Sutra, a Buddhist text which categorises martial arts into joint locks, fist strikes, grapples, and throws (try this).

Also do not believe that "lay people" and "Lay historians" are wrong because someone said so, their view is endorsed by the Shaolin itself and it's authorities (like grandmaster Wong Kiew Kit). The historians (Tang Hao, Matsuda Ryuchi, William CC Hu) who have written primarily after the communist revolution in China in order to present an alternative theory have dramatically conflicting results in their independent research. That might be one of the reasons why they are almost never cited in martial arts history, the other reasons may be the Shaolin rejecting their claims and the extreme dependence they show in disproving a text.

Keep an open mind, read everything from websites to official versions to Buddhist texts to best selling novels. Arrive at your own conclusions, read the NYT and Discovery articles too, they'll shed some light on what I mean.

Sorry for the uninvited intrusion.

Category:Military brat

edit

Well, somebody beat me to the category of military brat, but I went through last night and updated all of the brats on the List of famous military brats to have the category on their page. Well, the category has already been nominated for deletion. The reasoning is because it is a "non-neutral" term and parental occupation is irrelevant. Thus, I'm letting people who have contributed to the Military brat article know so that they can support keeping the category. WP:FILMS Questionnaire

edit

As a member of WikiProject Films, you are invited to take part in the project's first questionnaire. It is intended to gauge your participation and views on the project. At the conclusion of the questionnaire, the project's coordinators will use the gathered feedback to find new ways to improve the project and reach out to potential members. The results of the questionnaire will be published in next month's newsletter. If you know of any editors who have edited film articles in the past, please invite them to take part in the questionnaire. Please stop by and take a few minutes to answer the questions so that we can continue to improve our project. Happy editing!

Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

edit

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant!
