Arnold Hermann Ludwig Heeren entry
I am writing a book on 19th century German philosophies of history.
One of my main subjects is Arnold Hermann Ludwig Heeren. The existing article in Wikipedia was a stub -- just a reprint of a couple of paragraphs from outdated English-language sources. Since I want Heeren to be better known in English-language historical research, I took the time to print down and translate von Wegler's article on Heeren from the Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie -- a public domain and definitive German work something like our 11th edition of the Encylopedia Brittanica.
Being new as a Wikipedia contributor, I had some difficulty figuring out formatting. In fact, I spent a good deal of time on the translation and a whole day today getting it up on the English Wikipedia with an included reference to the ADB original. I inserted hyperlinks to every Wikipedia article in English dealing with the people Heeren knew, his Gottingen colleagues, his translator for the National Institute of France prize he won, etc. It has been a long day. I then went to show my wife the results of my 10 hrs work for the greater good of universally-available knowledge and you had removed the article.
I'm sure this is due to some formatting mistake I made in putting up the Heeren article. If that's how Wikipedia deals with people who are trying to enrich the knowledge base represented by online research, I guess I'll just have to deal with it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.110.40.248 (talk) 21:17, 17 February 2013 (UTC)
- Hello. Unfortunately, the information you added was unsourced. Please see WP:SOURCE. You need to make sure all of the information is relevant, written coherently and ensure that all sources are reliable. I know you put in the effort, and we appreciate it. However, it does need to be backed up with evidence. Thanks, --Chip123456 21:22, 17 February 2013 (UTC)
Fine. I'll put the Heeren article up on my university web page -- people will be able to find it easily enough through Google -- with an note that it was removed from Wikipedia by "Chip123456" for some indiscernible reason. (The article is in fact sourced. Did you happen to look under "References"?) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.110.40.248 (talk) 21:32, 17 February 2013 (UTC)
- They need to be formatted properly. They weren't sources which you collected for the info. See this. --Chip123456 21:36, 17 February 2013 (UTC)
Chip, old man, you're not listening. See yourself at: http://rci.rutgers.edu/~wcd/Heeren.html
One expects that you'll have your own fan club soon. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.110.40.248 (talk) 00:05, 18 February 2013 (UTC)
- I've tried to explain to you. If you still have a problem, raise the issue on the article talk page.--Chip123456 19:40, 19 February 2013 (UTC)
