Quadrivium
editWhat's your source for "the quadrivium could be considered as the study of number: arithmetic was pure number, geometry was number in space, music number in time, and astronomy number in space and time."? It strikes me as a particular elegant characterization, and I'd like to trace it back to the original formulation.

What's going on?
editI note three vandalisms from your account, immediately followed by reversions. Did someone else use your computer, or were you trying to test our vandalism response?-gadfium 22:33, 1 January 2006 (UTC)
- Neither. I just felt in the mood to vandalize. And then I felt I had been silly. Then again, Wikipedia is a silly thing anyway, so maybe I should have kept them vandalized. - 81.70.91.207 15:55, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
Robot attention to interwikis that are placed in templates
editHi! In a few wikipedias the interwikis of certain project pages, notably the village pumps, are put in templates to simplify the code of the project pages. For example,
- at fy:Wikipedy:Oerlis side interwikis are in fy:Berjocht:De kroech,
- at he:ויקיפדיה:מזנון interwikis are in he:תבנית:מזנון,
- at is:Wikipedia:Potturinn interwikis are in is:Snið:Potturinn, and
- at no:Wikipedia:Tinget interwikis are in no:Mal:Tinget-topp.
Do you know if, and how, the robots can be programmed not to put interwikis in those pages, but automatically put them in the respective templates, or must we clean up in each case? Is there some other, robot-related forum where such things could be discussed? (BTW, some users feel that interwikis should not be put in templates at all, because linking should be easy – especially for "newbies". But that's quite a different issue.) I'll watch your user talk, so you may reply here. Thanks. --Eddi (Talk) 11:43, 5 January 2006 (UTC)
- They could be programmed that way, but I see no better way to do it than by specifying each and every such page by hand (ugly!). I'm not going to do it, I've had it with Wikipedia, and I've had it with the bot. Go to wikibots-l (just Google it or so). Farewell. - 81.70.91.207 15:57, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you for your assistance. :) Sorry for intruding. :| --Eddi (Talk) 18:41, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
Wikipedia:Wikipedians/Germany is being replaced by a category
editHello! You were listed on the Wikipedia:Wikipedians/Germany page as living in or being associated with Germany. As part of the Wikipedia:User categorisation project, these lists are being replaced with user categories. If you would like to add yourself to the category that is replacing the page, or one of the Bundesland-based subcategories, please visit Category:Wikipedians in Germany for instructions. --Angr (tɔk) 14:46, 15 January 2006 (UTC)

Canada
editJust because I'm curious - why did you revert the Canada article to a version that apparently is from May 2005, without even using an edit summary? Sam Vimes 15:03, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the warning, I must have been asleep or something... I intended to revert a single previous edit rather than a whole bunch of them - and it seems that the edit I wanted to revert wasn't on the page in the first place. I must have hit 'save page' in the wrong window or something like that. - Andre Engels 07:54, 26 January 2006 (UTC)
- I think I already know what happened: I saw the error on a Wikipedia mirror, and used the link from there to the article, but it linked to the old version that they had copied rather than the current one. I then corrected that old version, causing me to unintendedly revert all subsequent edits. How I missed the "You are editing an old version of the page" warning, I still do not know. - Andre Engels 08:41, 26 January 2006 (UTC)
- Ah, makes some kind of sense. Thanks for clearing it up :) Sam Vimes 08:49, 26 January 2006 (UTC)
Wikiholism and Meta
editIn a good faith environment, changes are made because the Wikipedians on a Wikipedia want them, not because a single Wikipedian from another Wikipedia wants them. - Andre Engels 19:08, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
- What are you trying to say? I do not like your attitude. --Cool CatTalk|@ 19:39, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
hi
editMay I add that I find very peculiar that Cool Cat feels allowed to change these pages without consulting the local communities first, even re-reverting after he has been reverted in two occasions (es: and fr:), yet gets angry with his opponents for reverting him on other wikis than their own? I also find his remarks here and here to sound like he has very little feeling for community. "It should not bring a lot of stress - I did a lot of work on this, it should just be blanked - do what you want with the page, you're causing me unnecessary stress". As for Anthere threatening to block you: Doing an edit then reverting it does sound like trying to 'force' to me. Your mileage may vary, but just realize that in many non-English Wikipedias there is much resistance against (real or imagined) 'imperialism' from en:. Barging in and make changes because you like them when others don't is not going to increase your popularity.
Addition: The block threat was based on a message to me on the wikipedia-l list, see here and here. Anthere reacted here, apparently hearing of them for the first time and getting quite enraged. - Andre Engels 13:16, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
- I dont care about my popularity or wikipolitics. I never had any popularity in the first place. I got harrased constantly by individuals unlike anyone else.
- I have been reverted by same people interwiki even when I discussed it with the comunities on IRC and they said it was a good idea. Local comunities who liked the meta idea were also reverted. See th and ja wikipeida. I do not care what goes on wikipedia-l. I blanked to take comunities attention. Posting on talk pages no one looks at will not get anyones attention.
- I will revert war on against french wikipedians on japanese wikipedia. If the japanese comunity decided they dont do meta then I would backed down as I did on Nl note that i did so with great disapointment.
- never the less I thank you for posting liks to the mailing list. I did not even know about it prior.
- --Cool CatTalk|@ 13:35, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
- I also dont like you talking to me in 3rd person on my talk page. --Cool CatTalk|@ 13:38, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
- One key thing, my actions indended to make meta more multi lingual and less of an english only cabal and hence by nature was "anti-imperialist" --Cool CatTalk|@ 18:42, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
Anti vandal script
editWhat are you using to revert vandalism. WP has had a couple fairly big attacks in the last couple of days with a user replacing pages with an image. Do you have a script that I could use that would revert all pages with the said image / edit summary quickly, we had aprox a 400 edit vandalbot in the span of 5 min and a bout would be very very useful. Image:Beiserebatedor.jpg
editHi,
I noticed the source web address you cited for Image:Beiserebatedor.jpg now gets a "page missing" error. Can you locate the source? The photo of course looks like a typical agency photo and unlikely to really be freely usable, hence my looking for the source. Thanks - Tempshill 19:42, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
- Hi - thanks for the answer - I copied and pasted that Portuguese phrase over to the page for support. Unfortunately an exact URL is required or eventually the photo will be deleted. Tempshill 18:36, 17 March 2006 (UTC)
- The copyright status of photos you upload needs to be verifiable by other editors. Wikipedia:Verifiability is the related policy. If you don't provide an exact source - in the case of a website, meaning an exact URL - then it may not be possible for other editors to verify the copyright status, and your image might be tagged for deletion. I'm not going to tag it because I believe you, but others might not, and would be justified in tagging it. On your statement about self-taken photos, at present the statement that a photo is self-taken is enough. I can see how this is not verifiable, so my bet is that in 10 years the policy will have changed to something where they have to provide some proof that they themselves took the photo ... but I'm speculating about the future. Tempshill 22:04, 17 March 2006 (UTC)

Hi, just wondering what your thinking is behind removing the two articles from the Further reading section of Age of consent? I didn't add them myself, I did move them into Further reading from the main article, however. --Monotonehell 10:33, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
- I don't see them as being important to the subject of the page - at most they can function as source/evidence for a statement that sometimes persecution takes place for AOC where the perpetrator and 'victim' are later married. - Andre Engels 10:38, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
- I was in two minds about them myself. They are as you say just two examples, but since we're discussing law on that page they can be seen as precendent or enforcement of precendent. So as I said, I stood on the fence and moved them from the article to the Further reading. These are the kinds of links that have been the subject of edit wars and I wouldn't be suprised if they pop up again in the future. lol cheers for your input --Monotonehell 14:58, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

editWork getting backed up on Commons due to bureaucrats possibly on vacation.
editI applied for a bot flag on Commons:Commons:Administrators but unfortunately, the other Bureaucrats appear to be away on summer vacations. This proposal has been on the list for than two weeks has 9-0 votes in favour. Sent a message to village pump requesting Bureaucrat action last week, but still nothing. The bot is mostly doing category maintenance at this time and further work is being held up because it is flooding the RC list (recent run made 60K edits) making RC useless to folks. I have voluntarily held off any further runs since it appeared folks really preferred that.
But there are a number of things that I need to have the Bot do. Could you take a look and give it a flag? -Mak Thorpe 00:17, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

A request for assistance
editWould you support the concept of moving the Earhart "myths" to a separate page or article? The reason for my suggesting this is that the main article should be an accurate and scholarly work while the speculation and conspiracy theories surrounding the disappearance of Amelia Earhart are interesting, they belong in a unique section. Most researchers, as you know, discount the many theories and speculation that has arisen in the years following her last flight. Go onto the Earhart discussion page and register your vote/comments...and a Happy New Year to you as well. Bzuk 02:50 3 January 2007 (UTC).
Image:Jigsaw pieces.jpg
editThanks for uploading Image:Jigsaw pieces.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add
{{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. cohesion 17:34, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
Image copyright problem with Image:Skunk.jpg
editThank you for uploading Image:Skunk.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Jusjih 12:43, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

- Not all related links are wanted on Wikipedia, far from it. And making such links to the same site from many articles is considered spam. Try complaining with someone else, I won't change my mind. Not based on your arguments at least. - Andre Engels 08:18, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

editChristoph Metzelder
editYour bot takes zh:克里斯托弗·梅策爾德 off of the Christoph Metzelder page. What exactly is wrong with it? Kingjeff 18:12, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
- It is a problem with the traditional/simplified orthography. If you go to the page 克里斯托弗·梅策爾德 on zh:, you get to 克里斯托弗·梅策尔德. However, the bot uses Special:Export, and on Special:Export, such an alternative orthography does not give a text, so the bot thought the page did not exist. I have now had the bot change the link to 'standard' orthography, so the link will not be removed by bots any more. - Andre Engels 19:08, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Robert Lucas
editA tag has been placed on Robert Lucas, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia per CSD a7.
Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}}
on the top of the article and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}}
on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the page's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. Agamemnon2 08:31, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Miranda, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to have no meaningful content or history, and the text is unsalvageably incoherent. If the page you created was a test, please use the sandbox for any other experiments you would like to do. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you have any questions about this.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. DiligentTerrier and friends 16:12, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
- Just Wanted To Know
editHello Andre,
My name is Jonathon and I like to help out a lot and recently I noticed a lot of very interesting and important information has not been added to Wikipedia. So, I was wondering if there was ANY way that I could contribute to the site with my knowledge or spare time. Monday-Friday I am usually completely free from 2:15pm to roughly 12:00M. I don't really do much at all during the week unless its a holiday so I was hoping there would be something for me to do. I would say I am rather qualified for editing or moderating as I have been a MIRC Moderator before, this was a ways back, but I Moderated there. I am very knowledgeable of a vast amount of topics and I have access to countless encyclopedias and what some might call historical documents (not the originals of course, just written copies, but I am sure I could find some carbon or original copies at the Library or Town Hall). I am also great with grammar and spelling as you can probably tell by now. Though I am not as advanced as some of my entire-site-making friends I have practices HTML Codes as well.
Like I said I have a LOT of free time on my hands and I am always willing to help out a good cause and this site which I imagine is here to inform the world in a safe and slightly interactive (editable) environment. So if you find something that I might be able to assist with or there are any non-profit (assuming they all are :P ) jobs on the site I would be happy to take them on.
Sincerely,
John006a (talk) 02:02, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Iris magazine
editA proposed deletion template has been added to the article Iris magazine, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Papa November (talk) 18:51, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
Unspecified source for Image:Sheep.jpg
editThanks for uploading Image:Sheep.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 00:29, 28 June 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? -Nard 00:29, 28 June 2008 (UTC)

IP blocked
editDear Andre,
This is Ekain Lexartza, a technology area teacher at Laudio High School (Basque Country), as well as a recently registered wikimedia user (ekain.lexartza). As a school activity, I have recently started to translate, with my students, technology related articles to Basque language. The fact is that, althought I am perfectly able to do so, my students cannot even register, because you have blocked our IP (212.142.143.114. Curiously, they can register and work in Spanish, but not in Basque.
I would like to know when and why exactly has our IP been blocked, and if there is one, what the solution can be.
Thanks for your time!

- The 'when' is on 25 September. The 'why' is because there is a long history of detrimentous changes by your students. On http://eu.wiki.x.io/w/index.php?title=Aparteko:Log&type=block&page=Lankide%3A212.142.143.114 you find a list of all blockings of the ip, see also Lankide eztabaida:212.142.143.114. On 23 September they had been blocked for one day by TXiKi after submitting an article "L'Enfant Sauvage" with as its text "UEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE IJOS DE PUTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA MARICONESSSSSSSSSSSS". On the 25th I saw the ip return with "Faxa ez dakit zer den!!! Horrexegatik ari natzaizue galdetzen!!!" for the article "Faxa" and "aaaahhh!!" for the article "Memory stick". Because of the long ranging history of nonsense articles and other vandalism from your ip address, I then decided to block it for a longer time. I will now unblock the ip, but please ask your students that if they want to post material that is not a wikipedia article to do it on Wikipedia:Proba orria and not in the article namespace, because subsequent misconstrued edits will likely lead to a new ban. And yes, the ban was on the Basque Wikipedia, not on the whole, so they should have been able to edit on the Spanish Wikipedia or any other language. - Andre Engels (talk) 08:20, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
NowCommons: Image:Islamkarimov.jpg
editImage:Islamkarimov.jpg is now available on Wikimedia Commons as Commons:Image:Islamkarimov Uz.jpg. This is a repository of free media that can be used on all Wikimedia wikis. The image will be deleted from Wikipedia, but this doesn't mean it can't be used anymore. You can embed an image uploaded to Commons like you would an image uploaded to Wikipedia, in this case: [[Image:Islamkarimov Uz.jpg]]. Note that this is an automated message to inform you about the move. This bot did not copy the image itself. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 00:57, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
Name templates
editHi, I note that you removed {{given name}}
from a few articles about names, with the comment that it was not a disambiguation page. It seems that your argument is with the text contained within the template. Feel free to take this up on the template's talk page, or at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Anthroponymy. Meanwhile, I have restored the template to the articles, as it is the correct template to include on a Name article.
Given your interest in articles about names, you would be very welcome to join Wikipedia:WikiProject Anthroponymy. There is plenty of work to do! - Fayenatic (talk) 21:05, 18 November 2008 (UTC)
- Actually, my objection was mostly based on their inclusion on MediaWiki:Disambiguationspage. - Andre Engels (talk) 23:59, 18 November 2008 (UTC)

Rfd nom
editBefore nominating a talk page redirect for deletion, check to see if after the page move a disambiguation page has been created at the article. If so, just remove the talkpage redirect and replace with {{DisambigProject}}. Presto, problem solved. If no dab is there, you can do {{db-g6}}, it's speedy bait. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 15:19, 19 March 2009 (UTC)
- Hmmm... I went through Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion first, but it didn't look to me like G6 applied... As for the other possibility - I dislike throwing templates on a page or talk page and then pretending I did something useful. - Andre Engels (talk) 16:14, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

Hey fellow old-timer...
editIs something wrong? Manning (talk) 02:46, 5 October 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah. It seems you're an administrator, so maybe you recognize it a bit... I am one on the Dutch Wikipedia, and we got a remark criticizing us for not blocking someone. However, I know for sure that had someone blocked him, that would have been criticized too, including calls to depose him. We are supposed to take action against people, yet are not allowed to do so. How weird does it get?
- But deeper down I guess it's irritation about Wikipedia not working the way it should. It's supposed to work in such a way that if you don't agree about something, you discuss and find a compromise that both can agree with (in the end, that is the essence of NPOV). In actuality, such a thing is rare. If there is a conflict, what usually happens is that the person with the longest breath wins - either by silently reverting to their own version without discussion, or by keeping discussing until the other party gives up. And even if you manage to get into a discussion, it is easy enough to inject your own POV in 10 other pages in the time it costs the others to discuss its removal on one. The Wikipedia system works well if everyone is actually working towards neutrality. Many do, but the number who don't are high enough to disrupt everything. And our methods of dealing with them are at best inefficient, more often ineffective or non-existent. - Andre Engels (talk) 06:17, 5 October 2009 (UTC)
- Hey Andre - you seem to have forgotten me - we used to work together back in the EARLY, EARLY days of Wikipedia (like in 2001). Anyway I remembered you :)
- Regardless, yes everything you are saying is true. It is the perennial dilemma of running in a supposed democratic framework. The only answer is to try to remain true to yourself and your principles. If you feel you did the right thing, then you probably did.
- The "noise" factor can be overwhelming at times. The best bet is simply to ignore it. Tune it out. You will be criticised no matter what you do. But remember that nothing about Wikipedia is worth getting upset over. It's just a website. Cheers Manning (talk) 06:26, 5 October 2009 (UTC)
- No, to be honest I don't remember, but it doesn't surprise me either - as you write, everyone knew each other in that time, and almost everyone from that time worked together (I can remember that back then I would at the end of the day look what others had been doing on Wikipedia, and sometimes making small corrections and additions - all in an hour or so). Did I do the right thing? I don't know. I didn't do anything, in fact... But I think Wikipedia is more than just a website. I love it. I hate it. And really, what happened here is just a little issue. I have done much worse over past conflicts... - Andre Engels (talk) 07:27, 5 October 2009 (UTC)

You are now a Reviewer
editHello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.
When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.
If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. MBisanz talk 01:56, 20 June 2010 (UTC)

Ik heb met jouw handelen als uitvoerder geen problemen, dus wijs je enkel op foutjes, omdat nu onschuldigen geblokkeerd worden op basis van jullie te ruwe controles. - Stewards have the task to support communities, not to go against community decisions on the request of single persons. If you want to be unblocked on the Indonesian Wikipedia, it is the sysops and other users from the Indonesian Wikipedia that you should be contacting, not me or other Stewards. - Andre Engels (talk) 10:28, 19 June 2011 (UTC)
- But, that means the same as abuse of authority. So blocking is feasible status revoked and the blocker can be removed his admin status --Erik Evrest (talk) 11:45, 19 June 2011 (UTC)
- I cannot judge from your few lines whether or not you have been blocked for good reason; however, if you are unable to find sysops or regulars on the Indonesian wiki who agree with you, you probably have been. It would definitely mean that I am not in a position to just go against their decision based on nothing more than a statement from you. - Andre Engels (talk) 08:56, 20 June 2011 (UTC)

Credo Reference Update & Survey (your opinion requested)
editCredo Reference, who generously donated 400 free Credo 250 research accounts to Wikipedia editors over the past two years, has offered to expand the program to include 100 additional reference resources. Credo wants Wikipedia editors to select which resources they want most. So, we put together a quick survey to do that:
- Link to Survey (should take between 5-10 minutes): http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/N8FQ6MM
It also asks some basic questions about what you like about the Credo program and what you might want to improve.
At this time only the initial 400 editors have accounts, but even if you do not have an account, you still might want to weigh in on which resources would be most valuable for the community (for example, through WikiProject Resource Exchange).
Also, if you have an account but no longer want to use it, please leave me a note so another editor can take your spot.
If you have any other questions or comments, drop by my talk page or email me at wikiocaasi@yahoo.com. Cheers! Ocaasi t | c 17:06, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

editHi there, I'm thinking of writing a small biography of Matthijs Quast. He had a very interesting journey and I think there's too little information about him. There are not many sources to use, but I noticed you wrote a bit about him and I wanted to ask if you can help me. The link to your source "Andre Engels: Matthijs Quast" in the wikipedia article about Quast doesn't work. Could you help me with any information or sources? Thank You! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 146.50.159.32 (talk) 10:09, 30 September 2013 (UTC)
- My sources are the two Dutch-language books mentioned in the references. Later I found some more references:
- P: Verseput, J. (ed.): De reis van Matthijs Hendriksz Quast en Abel Jansz. Tasman ter ontdekking van de Goud- en Zilvereilanden. (The Hague 1954)
- Siebold, H. von: "La decouverte des iles Bonin par des navigateurs hollandais en 1639." L'Exploration 12 (1881)
- I think I still have the books by Roeper and Wildeman and Slot in my possession, as well as Raymond John Howgego's Encyclopedia of Exploration and a number of other books on these subjects, so if you give some more information about what information it is that you want, I might be of help.
- As you notice, I don't come by here very often any more. You can react at my Dutch user talk page or send me an email (andreengels at gmail dot com) if you want faster communication. - Andre Engels (talk) 12:14, 30 September 2013 (UTC)

editHi! I just read something you did when looking at the history, so I peeked to see if you are active and to mention that I linked that version in a current discussion. Shorter, but it is still accurate and useful, nice work. cygnis insignis 20:32, 11 January 2019 (UTC)

editThe article Pike (programming language) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Lacks significant coverage from reliable, independent sources. (?) It had no meaningful hits in a Google Books and Google Scholar searches beyond passing mentions and affiliated sources. No suitable redirect targets.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. czar 05:37, 31 January 2021 (UTC)

The Goldfinch is an oil-on-panel painting by the Dutch Golden Age artist Carel Fabritius of a life-sized chained goldfinch. Signed and dated 1654, it is now in the collection of the Mauritshuis in The Hague, Netherlands. The work is a trompe-l'œil painting that was once part of a larger structure, perhaps a window jamb or a protective cover. It is possible that the work was in Fabritius's studio in Delft at the time of a large gunpowder explosion on 12 October 1654 that killed him and destroyed much of the city. A common and colourful bird with a pleasant song, the goldfinch was a popular pet, and could be taught simple tricks including lifting a thimble-sized bucket of water. It was reputedly a bringer of good health, and was used in Italian Renaissance painting as a symbol of Christian redemption and the Passion of Jesus. The Goldfinch is unusual for the Dutch Golden Age painting period in the simplicity of its composition and use of illusionary techniques. Following the death of its creator, it was lost for more than two centuries before its rediscovery in Brussels. Painting credit: Carel Fabritius
