Hallur hook at DYK

edit

I've just selected Hallur for DYK, but thought I'd just check it was ok to use the hook "that the discovery of horse bones at the archaeological site of Hallur in south India refuted the theory that horses were introduced to this region as part of an Aryan invasion?" I was a bit confused by the debate between you and Wetman on this point, but think this hook is much more interesting than the other suggestion.

Also, Aryan invasion leads to a disambiguation page, so I have changed this to pipe the link to Indo-Aryan migration, which I think was the invasion meant? Regards, Espresso Addict (talk) 22:54, 20 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Talagunda

edit

Nice to see you back, and with lots of images I hope. The Talagunda inscription, one of the most important ones on Kadamba history was discovered I believe by George Moraes, whose book I have ("Kadamba Kula"). More later. Did you go to Banavasi? any early inscriptions? I need images of Kadamba Shikara, their stepped pyramid, that essentially defines the fundamentals of later Hoysala Shikara's.Dineshkannambadi (talk) 11:23, 1 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hello Amar. I guess you are one of the lead editors of Shivana Samudra article. Somehow I feel the current photos do not give feeling about the depth of the falls. Please take a look Image:SivanaSamudra.JPG that our family took during recent visit. We were lucky it was a peak time. If suitable please post it on the article. There is no copyright issues with the photo. I am o trying to get a better photo of Hogenakkal Falls falls from my brother who lives close by. The current one in HK article shows limited view. Hope to post it when there is a break from current intense and heated discussions. Naadapriya (talk) 06:31, 8 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hogenakkal falls

edit

Looks like you might be getting a little hot under the collar on the talk page recently, not that I am in any sort of position to criticize anyone else for that myself, mind you. ;) For what it's worth, I think what might work best here would be to call in neutral mediators to sort it through. By doing so, it might also help preclude any further, repetitive discussions on the subject in the future. Just a thought, anyway. John Carter (talk) 15:53, 15 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Just want to make it clear that the above was in no way a "warning" of any kind, because it wasn't. I can and do understand how people can get frustrated regarding places of indeterminate political ties. I'm going to have to try to think of some way to phrase things a bit more clearly in the future to make that a bit clearer. John Carter (talk) 20:57, 19 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Recent changes to articles and abuse by Special:Contributions/218.248.1.194

edit

Please consider this note a head's-up on a recent spate of articles changes and abusive talk page remarks by an apparent single-purpose IP account Special:Contributions/218.248.1.194 to Kannada-related articles. Those abused in the remarks include User:Dineshkannambadi, User:Sarvagnya, User:KNM, and User:Amarrg, per [1]. Additional abusive remarks and edit summaries directed to Dineshkannambadi are to be found in the IP's history log.

While I can revert the abusive talk page remarks, the IP's contribution history also shows a string of changes to multiple Indian history articles. Given the circumstances, it appears that these changes are of questionable merit. Unfortunately, I am not qualified on the topic content to determine if any of the other changes are correct. Accordingly, I am posting to the talk pages of the editors referenced by the IP so that you can collectively or individually take any actions on the change articles, talk pages, or the IP account that you think appropriate. -- Michael Devore (talk) 03:20, 20 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading Image:Leather Puppet Gandhi.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.

Reg. removal of erumaiyoor changes

edit

Hi Amarrg, I saw that story in more than one forums. Thats why asked a question on discussion page, seems nobody saw that. I don't have a proof yet, so, I have included that stuff with "citation needed". At least we could have left that for some time, so someone else might have added citation. I will try to find some proof. Still, it is quite an interesting story. :) Name "Erumaiyoor" looks a bit rough, but we don't know the context now. ~1000 years back it could have meant something different. In tamil, "erumai maram" is still understandable. Let me list some related words here, which help you better understand this; erumai - buffalo, erumbu - ant, erumbi - elephant, eruthu - bullock, etc. --V4vijayakumar (talk) 15:22, 24 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

I got some more details regarding this. I have also one book and an article which says this; give me some more time, let me provide these details to you. Mysooru should have come from mahishanavooru. There are some more places whose name is related to buffalo, like konannakundte. If you don't know what that means, "buffalo pond". and, konappanna agraharam near electronics city, bangalore. :) --V4vijayakumar (talk) 03:21, 25 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Bdvt.jpg

edit

A tag has been placed on File:Bdvt.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion," which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Can you try to write some sentences on the urban structure of the city? Those can be added to the Geography section. You can have a look at the Urban structure subsection in Geography section of Kolkata for guidance (urban structure of Mysore does not need to be a separate subsection though). Your upload of File:Akki rotti.JPG or contribution to its description is noted, and thanks (even if belatedly) for your contribution. In order to help make better use of the media, an attempt has been made by an automated process to identify and add certain information to the media's description page.

This notification is placed on your talk page because a bot has identified you either as the uploader of the file, or as a contributor to its metadata. It would be appreciated if you could carefully review the information the bot added. To opt out of these notifications, please follow the instructions here. Thanks! Replaceable fair use File:Veeragase.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Veeragase.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 17:02, 9 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
