editKarapetyan was an outspoken critic of the Armenian Apostolic Church[5] and an advocate of the separation of church and state in Armenia.[6]
Karapetyan praised Iran's treatment of Armenian architectural heritage on its territory.[7]

editHe has been praised by his work by, among others, architects Artak Ghulyan[8] and Sarhat Petrosyan,[9] architecture historian Argam Ayvazyan,[10] historian Hamlet Petrosyan,[11] art historian Karen Matevosyan.[12]
