Look at Template:Robert Frost. This is what the template should look like. The point of the navigation box is to allow a quick easy way to jump around WP. For example, note the top line: Works of Robert Frost. The "Works" is a Category, and "Robert Frost" links to the actual article on RF. Note the side label: it, too is a Category link.
If you want, I'll do some of the basic legwork (I've created Template:Joseph McElroy and Template:Michael Brodsky.) I expect you want to create subcategories of CS's work. First would be "poems", for the more famous of his poems that have or deserve a WP article. Next would be (and this is all up for discussion) Poetry Collections, Biographies (perhaps including Auto-, perhaps that would be separate), Children's Books, Song Collections, Reviews and Essays, Novels (plural, though there is just one).
I can't really participate in this too much: my knowledge of CS's works is limited to his more famous stuff. Choor monster (talk) 16:26, 30 December 2012 (UTC)
Proposed revision
editHere's a proposed start of a re-organization. The template has been split into two: Works and Miscellanea. Remember, navigation boxes are for navigating to articles or sections therein. Note that Sandburg's reading of Aaron Copland was Grammy Award winning. That probably means there should be a separate navigation box to the 1960 Grammy Awards, parallel to the three Pulitzer Prize boxes.
I assume the sorry state of non-articles about Sandburg's works is just a long temporary absence. Except for Remembrance Rock, I will not be able to do much about that. However, it does raise the question of what should be put in the navigation boxes. For example, should his children's books be separate articles, one article, or a subpage? It's beyond me to guess. Until someone does something along those lines, it's reasonable to leave them unlinked.
Note that I've made all these [[:Category:xxx]] links. The extra : in front is there because these don't exist yet. actually, it's required here If people think this is a better approach, then the first navbox can be moved to take the place of {{Carl Sandburg}} (ie, this page), and the second navbox can be created for {{Carl Sandburg miscellanea}} (ie, a new page). - Hi - These look real good - I'd say let's be bold and put them out there. When I put the Sandburg template together, it was just something I had been meaning to get to, and he had so many works and different aspects that I thought it would be nice to assemble them in one spot. (I am of the opinion that just because most templates for authors focus on just their works, that doesn't mean we shouldn't also include other aspects of their lives in templates, such as relatives, residences, etc. - But, I have an open mind on it going either way.) Feel free (as always, of course) to make these edits; Or, if you would prefer, I can do them. Thanks! KConWiki (talk) 17:23, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
- OK, I'm putting them into effect. For today, I'll just do Works and Miscellanea. Choor monster (talk) 18:05, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
Miscellanea to be deleted
editThe Miscellanea categories attracted attention, calling for speedy deletion. That seems to be the correct decision. It was suggested a list at the bottom of the page for the eponyms sufficed.
Also, I created some Category names with the wrong format, so the Template itself will need some fixing. Choor monster (talk) 14:39, 7 January 2013 (UTC)
Grammy Award template spun out
editThe Grammy Award template has been moved to its own page now. At the moment, only Carl Sandburg links to it. I will be adding the other 1960s winners soon. I am holding off on completing the list due to (a) low interest on my part (and probably everyone else) and (b) desire for feedback from those familiar with the other Grammy Award templates.
