Jack Langdell as guitarist

edit

As far as Wikipedia goes; Jack Langdell's inception in replacement of Tim Sherrill needs a source. -- GunMetal Angel 17:48, 19 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

he was....but he too left the band according to his facebook. NEEDS UPDATED! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.130.32.15 (talk) 01:57, 23 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
Jack Langdell -
"Could someone do me a favor and go edit Woe Is Me's Wikipedia page and take my name off of the current members and list it under the past members section along with '(fill-in)' beside it for clarification? Haha, oh and the new geetar player is a talented strapping lad named Geoffrey Higgins if anyone is wondering. Please welcome him just as you did me! : ]" via facebook —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.205.227.143 (talk) 03:45, 8 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
He could just do it himself, why does he need to make commands over a social networking website? - GunMetal Angel 18:25, 8 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
he wasnt able to access a laptop, he updated through his phone — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.205.227.143 (talkcontribs)
That could also be a conflict of interest. Best that he left it up to someone else to edit :) - Ausher8 (talk) 08:43, 16 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Not Industrial Metal

edit

The tag "industrial metal" on this band is incorrect. Using electronic sounds in hard rock/metal music does not necessarily make an industrial metal band. Woe Is Me uses synth lines and electro beats, but none of it is derived from electro-industrial music. Bands like Nine Inch Nails and KMFDM combine electro-industrial with metal guitar riffs. This music is considered post-hardcore. Jaxwes (talk) 19:53, 28 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

I don't know (or care) who added "industrial metal" to the genre section, but I do know that sources exist that claim this as their genre. I agree industrial metal doesn't fit Woe, Is Me, but wikipedia relies on Verifiability, not truth. - Jer Hit me up 20:12, 28 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
Also not to mention in one of the band's early interviews, original singer, Tyler Carter used the word "industrial" more than four times describing the band's music.[1]GunMetal Angel 21:06, 28 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
Surely it would be better to add the source to the infobox confirming they are indrustial metal? Also that isn't a useful resource. Jonjonjohny (talk) 21:32, 14 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

"Industrial rock" also does not seem to fit at all. If the band is classified as post-hardcore/metalcore, then they wouldn't be categorized as a rock band. Jaxwes (talk) 19:56, 31 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Well, those genres relate to rock. That's just obvious aside from the fact that we also have it like that to avoid drama, unlike other people… GunMetal Angel 20:03, 31 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
We use rock as a Blanket term for bands like that, as GMA said, there are still some people who change it, but for the most part, it cuts out a lot of the annoying genre warring. -Jer Hit me up 03:44, 1 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

It ain't industrial metal nigga. Next Thing I supposed you're gonna call Tyler the creator industrial jazz rap

Cool opinion, bro • GunMetal Angel 05:59, 24 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

They aren't industrial metal at all. I have no idea who is keeping the industrial metal label on here since just about nobody considers them industrial metal. Even if the singer called the band "industrial" it still doesn't make them an industrial band. If Thom Yorke called Radiohead "industrial" it still wouldn't make Radiohead industrial. Saladhouse (talk) 02:13, 3 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

…Again, cool opinion, bro. • GunMetal Angel 05:12, 3 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
So what is your reasoning for keeping this label then? The singer of the band would not be considered a third party source, and I have never seen any reliable publications calling them industrial metal. Saladhouse (talk) 14:56, 3 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
GunMetal Angel seams to believe that because he has two other editors are supporting industrial metal that it is a legitimate move to maintain the genre. The main issues is the genre's verifiability; is their a supporting source from a reliable, third party source? If sources can be produced and shown in this talk page mention industrial metal and are reliable, not just what a band member said in an interview only accessible by youtube, which is both unsolicited unhelpful in the info box, perhaps stretched to what the band thinks about themselves when writing a musical style section. Not a Rock band

edit

Not sure who edited the introduction to say they are a rock band, but this is incorrect. Post-Hardcore is a better umbrella genre for them to fall under. If a band performs breakdowns and unclean vocals, chances are they are not a rock band. Kjath (talk) 02:25, 31 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

The reason why they are said to be a rock band is already clearly explained in the hidden comment. If you remove it again that would be considered disruptive editing beyond the grounds of a guideline. Also all that post-hardcore whatever you want to call it is based off of rock, that's just obvious. What would you think it's based off of? Rap? Aside from that I even need to say that Woe, Is Me aren't even technically a post-hardcore band being that post-hardcore is a punk genre. How in the world is Woe, Is Me even the slightest to punk? So yeah you're pretty wrong yourself like really wrong. • GunMetal Angel 10:31, 31 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
They are a form of synthcore / electronicore, both of which fall under the Post-Hardcore umbrella, as I already stated. Read the the definition on the Post-Hardcore page about fusion genres. To reiterate, here is an excerpt from that page: "These groups make use of metalcore-influenced breakdowns, synthesizers, electronically produced sounds, auto-tuned vocals, and screamed vocals." There are three citations on that as well if you need to read up on them. Woe, Is Me uses all of these things quite extensively to achieve their sound. I don't know anyone who would classify this band as a Rock band. Post your source that states they should be classified as a Rock band, because right now I don't see it. Kjath (talk) 16:17, 31 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
To say that Woe, Is Me is a "rock" band is something extremely misleading, if someone that is not familiar with the band reads the article calling them a "rock" band, he/she will asume that Woe, Is Me sounds like Phoenix or Coldplay, so when he/she listens to one of their songs, "Vengeance" for example, the only thing that will comes to the mind of that person will be something like "It's true! wikipedia is garbage!" Definitivelly would be better if the introduction line says "post-hardcore" instead of "rock", that way anybody will know that they're about to listen something diferent, and will check out more "post-hardcore" bands if they likes this one. I'll wait some time to see if the other editor replies this, if not, I'll change it by myself. Nicrorus (talk) 02:00, 1 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
I agree with you that rock is too ambiguous to describe this bands style. But post-hardcore would not be the best way to describe this band. Post-hardcore implies this band reflects the music At The Drive-In or Funeral For a Friend play and this is not the case. This bands style reflects metalcore a lot more than anything else. And the fact is that this band doesn't have that many sources describing their style, so me describing it will come off unsolicited. Jonjonjohny (talk) 09:46, 1 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
Either way, I think we all agree Rock isn't the correct way to label this band, and is pretty misleading. I will settle on labeling them Metalcore for now so long as everyone agrees on it, until more sources become available for reference. Kjath (talk) 18:07, 1 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
Metalcore is ok, they're heavier than most post-hardcore. Nicrorus (talk) 04:15, 2 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
I will leave it up to one of the editors to change. Don't want to get in trouble for "disruptive editing". Kjath (talk) 19:17, 3 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Improvements

edit

Can someone add a picture of the band that shows actually the whole band and not just two members? preferably one with the new members in it. Nicrorus (talk) 02:21, 11 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Woe, Is Me (band)

edit

The article title really needs to have (band) on it, even if the name with odd comma redirects here. In ictu oculi (talk) 04:52, 30 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Jared Land (not a member of this band)

edit

A person named Jared Land has repeatedly [been added] to the list of Past Members of this band. [redacted] - this needs to be addressed by moderators or admins. 108.59.209.135 (talk) 10:15, 31 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Updated photo

edit

Would it be possible to have an updated photo reflecting the current lineup? The band has posted several live photos from their reunion shows this year. 108.59.209.150 (talk) 03:59, 8 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Is anyone going to do anything about this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.59.209.150 (talk) 22:52, 5 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
