Coordinates

edit

I'm surprised to see the coords put Whiteaker east of I-105/126. Though technically that is also part of Whiteaker, the heart of the neighborhood is along Blair Blvd., east of the highway. Katr67 (talk) 04:25, 16 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

I didn't find a neighborhood map anywhere, so just followed the (unsourced) lead description, squinted, and took a rough stab where it is. Please adjust it if you know better. —EncMstr (talk) 04:27, 16 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for trying! I moved the coords to be closer to the "Whiteaker" label on Google Maps. Katr67 (talk) 16:14, 16 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Notable businesses in the 'hood

edit

Ninkasi is probably the only one--they have at least statewide distribution. And maybe the wineries. Wandering Goat is charming but until it reaches the level of Allann Bros. Coffee (no article for Allann Bros? the mind reels) or Stumptown Coffee, or even Dutch Bros. Coffee, it's not notable. Katr67 (talk) 22:14, 4 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

7/2011 Wandering Goat is still thriving. No one mentioned long standing Sam Bond's Garage...a favorite bar among many in Eugene with great music and outside seating. Meiji's is a new neighborhood favorite. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.100.247.137 (talk) 17:58, 13 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
No businesses need to be mentioned unless they meet Wikipedia's notability criteria. Local popularity is not a factor, and Wikipedia is not a tourist guide. That said, Sam Bond's Garage does have an article, but I gutted the Whiteaker article because none of it had references--Sam Bond's can be re-added. C'mon Whiteaker folks, I know y'all are anarchists and hippies, and dont like following rules, but you're smart enough to find and add referenced material to this article! Confusing timeline

edit

“In 2009, a riot broke out… Later that year, Whiteaker activists also played a key role in organizing black bloc tactics during the World Trade Organization Ministerial Conference of 1999 protest activity.” Does Whiteaker have time machines as well as radicals? — crism (talk) 16:48, 3 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Well, I least I got the dates within ~10 years or so. Mark Arsten (talk) 05:57, 4 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Unique Zoning

edit

It'd be nice to see a write up of the Whit's unique zoning, which really leads to it's distinct flavor http://projects.registerguard.com/web/opinion/28050521-47/whiteaker-zoning-neighborhood-eugene-experiment.html.csp Rabid.conservationist (talk) 20:34, 20 September 2012 (UTC)Rabid.conservationistReply

Demographics

edit

Is there support for the statement that the neighborhood is primarily made up of "working class" residents? Rabid.conservationist (talk) 20:34, 20 September 2012 (UTC)Rabid.conservationistReply
