most effective two-deckers
editThe assertion that the Tonnant class was "the most effective two-deckers" is highly disputable. Of the 8, the French lost 7 in combat, hardly an indication of efficiency. Of the succeeding Bucentaure class, essentially the same design, 4 of 5 which saw combat were lost. Beyond that, of the remainder of the Bucentaure class, almost all of them never left port, serving as guard ships until the Bourbon restoration, again, hardly an indication of efficiency. It's also notable that, while several of the class continued in British service for many years, none of them attained any particular repute which made their names memorable, which again indicates no especial efficiency in British service. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:589:300:CA70:0:0:0:3B3A (talk) 23:00, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
