Map
editHi, @PadFoot2008 Glad you noticed some changes in the map that need to be done. Unfortunately! I could not spot the errors in my map as per the atlas. What needs to be changed? (in map concerning atlas) So I can correct my map.
Regards. Rawn3012 (talk) 12:35, 26 July 2024 (UTC)
- @PadFoot2008 Any reply from your side Rawn3012 (talk) 18:02, 26 July 2024 (UTC)
- This is the Sikh Kingdom in the atlas [1]. The current map seems to align perfectly with it, while yours seems exaggerated. Additionally, as I mentioned in my edit summary, the extent of Indian states are generally a controversial topic and therefore the long-standing (usually) historical map is preferred over user made ones. PadFoot (talk) 18:24, 26 July 2024 (UTC)
- @PadFoot2008 The map which you have referred above is not the Sikh Empire at it's peak. Please see the 1, third row(last map). My map perfectly alligns with it. Also there is no rule on wikipedia which states that "'the long-standing (usually) historical map is preferred over user made ones" The current map gives near to all nothing to the user and is awfull too. - Your link doesn't work. PadFoot (talk) 02:49, 27 July 2024 (UTC)
- @PadFoot2008 Sorry! for the late response as I was busy with some personal work. Please retry from the same link or use 2. It shows the same extent which I have drawed in my map.

- As I said before in other discussions, these maps do not appear very accurate. The map shows Bahawalpur as a part of the Sikh territory, which seems inaccurate. See the map of the Nizam's territories for instance in the same page. PadFoot (talk) 16:19, 29 July 2024 (UTC)
- Okay, I will re-edit the map based on your source only then. Rawn3012 (talk) 16:25, 29 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Rawn3012, thanks for understanding. I will not oppose a map that is drawn similar to the current one. PadFoot (talk) 16:30, 7 August 2024 (UTC)
- @PadFoot2008 I have changed the extent of the Sikh Empire based upon the map which is being used currently. Also I had changed the current map with the updated one. It can take some time to update.

- Alright. PadFoot (talk) 22:49, 7 August 2024 (UTC)
- The map looks misleading. Although it is meant to match the previous map (which is used as a source).
- It still doesn't highlight important provinces like Peshawar. Other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa too are not labelled. Bajaur should be labelled as well.
- Other than that the map looks fine. Malik-Al-Hind (talk) 08:21, 27 August 2024 (UTC)
- Hi! @Malik-Al-Hind After reading you concerns I can say that Maps at infobox are meant to provide a rough idea about the polity. Although mine one is some standards above. Also, It id not mandatory to have each province labeled. Hence, Calling it a misleading map would put the map into pov category which clearly it is not. Hope you would have understood
- Best Regards Rawn3012 (talk) 16:42, 27 August 2024 (UTC)
- No but the map is supposed to show the greatest extent, And peshawar was one of the most important city of the empire. So I think it just should be labelled like attock and lahore are. Malik-Al-Hind (talk) 16:58, 27 August 2024 (UTC)

Kingdom, not an empire
editIt was ruled by an Maharaja which translates to 'Great King'. See Maharaja of Punjab as called in Imperial Gazetteer of India Vol.1 [Page no - 48]
It was called as Sikh Kingdom or Kingdom of Punjab , as represented in Britannica
and Book by Khushwant Singh.
Thanks. WhatAGreatWikiTuber (talk) 11:36, 1 September 2024 (UTC)
other sources for kingdom of punjab
edit- (Note: Moved from User talk:RegentsPark)
- the britishers aswell as the natives called the sikh empire simply as 'Punjab' , during the various treaties singed between sikhs and britishers, they always mention it as 'sovernity of punjab' i will cite more sources *here* which you can then look into. WhatAGreatWikiTuber (talk) 14:42, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
- The conventional long name parameter is used for the full name of the entity. From your description, it looks like Punjab was the colloquial name rather than the conventional long name. You can probably use this in the Terminology section. RegentsPark (comment) 15:15, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
- Okay! What about the kingdom bit? in treaties to sources , it is technically and also called itself as an 'kingdom' WhatAGreatWikiTuber (talk) 11:02, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
- As I say above, conventional long name is used for the full name of the entity. Other names should be discussed in the Terminology section. RegentsPark (comment) 15:49, 8 September 2024 (UTC)

Foreign Relations :
edithello i just made my account , hence i cant edit but have prepared a foreign relations the sikh empire :
1) East India Company (British) : They mantained a friendly but cautious relation, Ranjit singh was careful to not provoke the british , but he also made sure that the british did not interfere in his domain.
But as Punjab fell into instability after ranjit's death,it became a threat to british and mutual suspicous began arising.
2) Afghans or Durranis : Very hostlike , was engaged in various clashes and wars.
3)Persia (qajar) : limited interactions but the persians saw the development in the region due to weaking of afghans.
4)Nepal : No formal alliance , were engaged in one war but both had anti-british sentiments.
5) China (qing) : limited interactions , sikhs were engaged in one war with Tibet under qings and resulted in stalemate and ladakh was reduced to its modern day borders.
6)Russia : possible threat, ranjit saw the development of russia in central asia
7)france :there were rumours of alliance between ranjit and napolean but no actual alliance was formed , sikh empire had many french generals and mercernaries JingJongPascal (talk) 16:29, 18 September 2024 (UTC)
