Merger proposal with San Francisco de Asis Church, Ranchos de Taos
edit- Support: duplicate articles on the same church. I think (but am not certain) that San Francisco de Asis is the correct Spanish name, so this should be checked first. --Pete Tillman (talk) 13:58, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
Support: The church of San Francisco de Asis in Ranchos de Taos was never a mission. That mistaken idea is based primarily on the architecture, which is often thought to be unique to missions, but was not. It is sometimes argued, but without historical basis, that the church was a mission to Jicarilla Apaches in the area, but it was not. The church was the first Spanish parish in the Taos Valley. - Mr. Boyer, if you have a reference for your information, could you please post it? I'll go ahead and do the merge sometime soon, and it would be nice to correct this apparent error in the final article. Note that the NPS states that it was a mission, so we would need good documentation to go with your version. TIA, Pete Tillman (talk) 03:36, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
- Per Spirit and Vision: Images of Ranchos de Taos Church. 1987, Museum of New Mexico Press -- it's a mission church. This seems a pretty definitive source. Pete Tillman (talk) 01:58, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
- I've gone ahead and done the merge. Yworo (talk) 23:40, 6 August 2010 (UTC)
