His associates

edit

Surely this should discuss Loie Fuller and Queen Marie of Romania. [1] - Jmabel | Talk 05:53, 28 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Agreed, at least regarding Queen Marie - I'm not familiar with Fuller. Also, it should discuss the Columbia River Highway. -Pete 22:46, 25 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Fuller was one of the most prominent figures in early modern dance, and was Hill's link to Queen Marie. - Jmabel | Talk 01:29, 15 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Biggs-Wasco Road

edit

I've removed the passage that has the Oregon legislature in 1913

praising him for his work on the Biggs-Wasco road; he also won praise for his vision of the Pacific Highway, which he envisioned as a road running from Canada to Mexico. Oregon Governor James Withycombe, however, derided the Biggs-Wasco project as a road originating and leading to "nowhere" and a wasted effort.

There was no citation, and I suspect it is mistaken on at least a few counts. I believe at that time he was merely advocating that road, that it had not yet then been built, and that his role in the road was strictly that of an advocate, not a builder. Withycombe's remark is probably accurately quoted, but needs citation, and both the chronology & Hill's precise role need to be sorted out. Biggs is just across the river from Maryhill, and U.S. Route 97 now leads from Biggs to quite near Wasco, so this is all plausible in the broad picture.

Withycombe, by the way, took office in 1915, so he would not yet have been governor in 1913 when the legislature came en masse to Maryhill. - Jmabel | Talk 18:33, 3 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
