Mahoney
edit"Mahony has worked extensively to prevent or impede investigations of sexual abuse by priests. He appealed one attempt to gain access to church documents relating to sexual abuse all the way to the Supreme Court. According to legal experts this case fit a pattern where church authorities have attempted to prevent the release of documents on First Amendment or other constitutional grounds."

Holy Days of Obligation
editThis needs drastic reduction. Some of it belongs in a higher level document. All info needed be repeated. Also, believers know this already and it bores the daylights out of those who aren't. A good reason for shortening it to a couple of lines and pointing to a reference someplace. Student7 (talk) 11:52, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
- I disagree. The material appears to be unique to this archdiocese and I found it interesting to see how this archdiocese differs from others. ·:· Will Beback ·:· 22:22, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
Pastoral regions
editThis seems almost unique to LA. My archdiocese don't have them, as far as I can determine on the web. Sydney does. Cincinnati uses the term in a very different fashion. An editor might want to comment on the uniqueness. Student7 (talk) 11:55, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
- Greetings! A belated response to your inquiry about Pastoral regions. My 2-cents worth here...
- Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston, has a chart with PR on left column.
- Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Baltimore, mentioned briefly in 'Prelature' section.
- Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York, has 5 auxiliary bishops and NY boroughs (4) and surrounding counties. PR not specifically stated, however each Aux. bishop may be assigned to one of these.
- Since I'm new to Wikipedia since March, 2014, I have not used the ping to notify you so I'll drop a note on your talk page after this is posted. Regards, JoeHebda (talk) 19:26, 16 January 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for that info, Joe. Always finding something new! Maybe should be in some higher level article? Seems too short to have its own article. Student7 (talk) 20:50, 16 January 2015 (UTC)
Article rating re-assessed
editFor multiple wikiprojects, save one, this article is mostly complete and without major issues, but requires some further work to reach good article standards. In accordance with that scale, this article is re-assessed B class, Mid importance. The Southern CA task forces should look to improve this article to GA. --Morenooso (talk) 01:19, 14 March 2010 (UTC)
Sex abuse cases
editThis section seems much more detailed that its parent: Sexual abuse scandal in Los Angeles archdiocese. Does anyone object if I synchronize it to the parent? Lionel (talk) 05:47, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
- I have removed most of the content that was a duplicate of the "main" article. Whenever there is a "main" article hatnote, the article linking to that "main" article should only contain a brief synopsis of that article. I also removed the synopsis of Deliver Us from Evil (2006 film) as WP:COATRACKing, as it is more about O'Grady and Mahony and not especially relevant to the archdiocese. —KuyaBriBriTalk 20:18, 28 February 2012 (UTC)
Three Auxiliary Bishops, 1 article written, asking for 2 new articles
editGreetings, On September 8, 2015, Robert Barron (bishop) was ordained as an auxiliary bishop for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels by Archbishop José H. Gomez.
<ref name="Bishop Barron">{{cite web|url=http://www.angelusnews.com/news/local/three-new-auxiliary-bishops-ordained-for-the-archdiocese-of-los-angeles-8851/|website=Angelus News|title=Auxiliary Bishop Barron|accessdate=9 September 2015}}</ref>
Today, I added Requested Articles at Wikipedia:Requested articles/Social sciences/Religion, Catholic, People section:
- Joseph V. Brennan current Auxiliary Bishop, Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles (2015-present)
- David G. O'Connell current Auxiliary Bishop, Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles (2015-present)
Articles for Bishops Brennan and O'Connell are red links, and need to be written. Asking for help from other (expert) editors to write these new articles. Thanks. JoeHebda (talk) 03:37, 12 September 2015 (UTC)
Date of establishment
editShouldn't the year of establishment be 1858 or, at the very least, 1876? That's when the Archdiocese of Monterey was renamed Archdiocese of Monterey-Los Angeles. The 1922 date seems pretty arbitrary considering it had been split once before. By 1922, the episcopal see had already been in Los Angeles for ~50 years.
Auxiliary bishops out of date
editBishop Edward Clark retired. Bishop Robert Barron is now the Bishop of Winona-Rochester. SlowJog (talk) 00:44, 30 July 2022 (UTC)
