GamesBeat potentially confirming songs

• Seems notable enough for inclusion. Douglass C. Perry is a freelance writer for many magazines/sites. I've seen Venture Beat used before in articles, and feel it's reliable enough. It's not iron-clad reliable, but close to Kotaku in reliability. I'd say there's an extremely slight ambiguousness to the listing of tracks, as the other lists "confirmed indie bands", but not "confirmed tracks". Song list

Ok, with the beta now open, we can see what songs have been "confirmed" (passed all playtest and review phases). While I know now they've stated they expect to open the store front in a few weeks, does anything else thing this may be enough to start a "List of songs in the Rock Band Network" list? --MASEM (t) 02:10, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

• I think a List of Rock Band Network songs article is a good idea, but unless there's an online listing somewhere (similar to the official Rock Band song list), I don't think we can just rely on someone that has access to the beta; we might be tripping over WP:V and WP:OR inadvertently. • • I do have access to the beta (in that I do have the required XNA account to also playtest songs), but I don't know what the limitations are. If someone wants to try to create a new profile with this page (note as far as I can tell requires no $$ to do up to that point) and see what they get out of it, that might help, because then the song list, while requiring registration, is not locked behind a $$-only source. --MASEM (t) 18:11, 25 January 2010 (UTC)

We've waited this long, we might as well wait until everything goes official. I'd hate to start creating the list and then issues lead to delays or unreleased songs. Also it opens up some potential confusion if others with XNA access start listing songs only available for review comparred to official releases. -- TRTX ^{T / C} 00:01, 26 January 2010 (UTC)

It may not be official, but the person that runs Plastic Axe (I forget his name) is an established journalist for games, particularly music ones. As for the list here, lets wait until the AFDs on the actual DLCs are closed. --MASEM (t) 01:55, 8 March 2010 (UTC)

I've been spending the last two days composing a version of the List of Rock Band Network songs wiki page. I've compared several different sources to create (what I think) a definitive article. Time to reconsider format of "Confirmed artists"

Now that we are starting to get some more official news regarding confirmed artists and songs, I think it's time to redo that section of the article. Perhaps have a column for artist, a column for song, and a column (nonsorting) for source. If the artist has no song, just put "TBD" in the column. The reason I say this is because we're starting to see artists and authors confirming songs via press releases on the RB forums, as shown

I agree that once we get a list going for released songs (thus, we need the store to open per above), a source column to confirm upcoming songs is needed. Song List (now that it's going)

Ok, now that its out, and that the AFD on the other songs lists has closed as "keep", we should consider what we're going to do here.

I think a key issue is sourcing. While the regular RB DLC has regular sourcing upon announcement of the tracks, the RBN stuff is not - at least, beyond the initial release set. I know that the user-kept databases will track this, as well as the list at Plastic Axe (whom the guy behind hit could be considered a reliable journalist), but I would really like to have an affirmed source of songs before we build it.

As for the construction, while we have this initial burst, I suspect we'll settle down to somewhere between 10 to 20 songs per week from RBN (right now, we're getting abuot 10 per day, excluding weekends). That would leave a size comparable to the current RB DLC lists, so it would make sense to adopt that format now ("2010 in downloadable content for the Rock Band Network", "Complete list of downloadable content for the Rock Band Network") to be ready to expand in the future.

For upcoming songs, I propose we only put down artists that have confirmed songs from third-party sources (not bands themselves), but not list exact songs since this can change. (As it is, songs that go in the pipeline can fail and may never make it to the game). If there are songs IDs, maybe have a column to list these but not a song-by-song table, only artist-by-artist. --MASEM (t) 16:19, 9 March 2010 (UTC)

The only draw back right now is there is no solid source for when songs hit the store. Even [www.rockband.com/music] isn't always accurate in terms of when a song is added there and when it is released. I think at this time it's not reasonable to actually list everything, and instead we approach it as an entity. Perhaps modifying the aritcle to highlight any major releases. For example, reword the release information to highlight the number of songs at release and include a few notable bands that were there as well as the fact that "The Future Soon" (which was included as part of the live RBN demo) is also there. @TRTX: The RBN site does have data on daily song releases. But I'm not sure I'm a believer in Wikipedia keeping this info. You have to draw the line somewhere. Maybe just an external link to The RBN song list? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Oren0 (talk • contribs)

Taking into account Oren's comment and the AFD discussion for the main songs lists, maybe the best to do is simply identify artists that are confirmed via third-party sources to be on RBN; that is, we would list likely only the notable artists that have been noted in sources outside of the RBN songlists to be in RBN. Eg we can do this now with bands like JoCo, The Shins, and Flight of the Conchords. I'd also limit this list to blue-linked bands. This list can be put on the RBN page, along with the external link to the "official" list at rockband.com. This 1) gives us sourcing 2) avoids having issues with tracking what is effectively user-generated content. --MASEM (t) 15:41, 13 March 2010 (UTC)

Well, apparently someone didn't follow the talk page, but done the hard work and created the list article List of Rock Band Network songs for RBN. I'd rather not delete it (though if someone else comes along and AFDs it, then I'd likely support it) but I recommended keeping tabs on it. --MASEM (t)
