Should the title be changed?
editI'm a bit confused the title here is different from the video the video is called Putin's Palace History of world's largest bribe. But this is something else just wanted to know why. Georgebooneypop (talk) 18:50, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
- The current title is a translation of the original title in Russian. On YouTube, the title to English-speaking users is not a direct translation. Mellk (talk) 20:48, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
Thanks Georgebooneypop (talk) 02:40, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
- Actually, it really should be changed. And here is why:
WP:NCFILMS, section Foreign-language films says: "If the English title means something different from the native title, use the English title ..."
In this case the Russian title of the film is expected to be directly translated as "A Palace for Putin: The Story of the Biggest Bribe", but we will still use the English title - "Putin’s palace. History of world’s largest bribe".
Another aspect of the situation is what name reliable sources are using:
The Washington Post here - link - is using the name "Putin’s palace. History of world’s largest bribe."
Politico also - link.
NPR also - link.
So the title should be "Putin’s palace. History of world’s largest bribe" per WP:NCFILMS and WP:ENGLISH.--Renat (talk) 11:08, 3 February 2021 (UTC)

Putin's Palace. History of World's Largest Bribe → Putin's Palace (film) – Simply WP:COMMONNAME and WP:CONCISE, it's clearly most recognisable under its non-subtitled name. WP:SUBTITLE talks a bit about the full title being used as a disambg, but it hardly is of any help when the subtitle is unfamiliar to most readers (don't even have a colon, how would anyone even recognise it?). - Support. "Putin's Palace" gets nearly 100k more Google search results than "Putin's Palace. History of World's Largest Bribe". Obviously not the only factor, but this is a large indicator of a common name. – DarkGlow • 18:58, 31 March 2021 (UTC)
- Support. I agree, I would say this is a case like with Borat. Mellk (talk) 19:23, 31 March 2021 (UTC)
- Support – yes, more recognizable. —Mx. Granger (talk · contribs) 08:09, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
