El Hassan or al-Hassan?

edit

The text of the page names the subject Princess Sarvath El Hassan, the name of the page is Princess Sarvath al-Hassan. I have no knowledge of the language, but I expected these to be the same. Why are they not the same? P0mbal (talk) 20:58, 22 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Google searches show Princess Sarvath El Hassan to be found in an enormous majority. In fact, see Wikipedia is the only result with Princess Sarvath al-Hassan. There is a redirect from Princess Sarvath El Hassan to this page, so the page cannot be re-named (or can it?). This makes it look like it has the wrong spelling, and it is irritating to see. Unless (please tell me) there is something I don't know about the language and it's conventions. With greatest respect to the subject, a living royal, this has to be got right. El Hassan, El-Hassan, al-Hassan all on the first page. If there are reasons for the differences, well and good, no problem, but if there is carelessness or ignorance can this be put right. It just does not look good. P0mbal (talk) 20:18, 28 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned references in Princess Sarvath al-Hassan

edit

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Princess Sarvath al-Hassan's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "RArk":

Princess Sarvath al-HassanPrincess Sarvath El Hassan – A previous RM involving this page was unsuccessful due to it being grouped with a bunch of other articles so I am going to nominate it again. As User:P0mbal pointed out in his comments on the article's talk page in June 2013 and May 2016, the suggested name, Princess Sarvath El Hassan, appears to be the WP:COMMONNAME and the correct form per almost all the sources cited within this article: Statement from the Jordanian royal court in 2023, Prince Hassan's official website (1) (2), Arabic News, University of Bath, Getty Images, The Times of India, The Times of Israel, Jordan Times, etc. Additionally, there is no need for the hyphenation, which is not used in the sources and is only creating inconsistency with other similar pages (see Princess Rajwa Al Hussein, Princess Muna Al Hussein). Comment [1] uses the current title. — Frostly (talk) 00:07, 4 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
I have linked the same publication above using the suggested title. And the one you linked does not use the current title; it's using Sarvath Al Hassan, which is not hyphenated. The majority of sources use "El Hassan", and the Jordanian court which represents her uses it too, so there is ground for moving per MOS:IDENTITY as well. Two Ideas

edit

Hello! I am a very new editor so please let me know if any of these suggestions do not work or are beyond my scope. I came here from Wikiproject Jordan.

First, I would suggest separating "career" and "controversy". I like the alliteration that it currently has but I think that the article would feel more organized if they were in separate sections.

Second, would it be possible to add a table instead of the current list for "Organizations founded" -this would allow us to add information about dates, places, short descriptors, etc. and I feel like the information would be easier to read. Didymakida (talk) 13:33, 12 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

I think retitling it to "Public life" makes more sense since her supposed feud with Noor is not really part of her career. With regards to the second point, what would actually help is finding sources first and then try to work that information into a meaningful prose. Keivan.fTalk 23:53, 1 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
