I did a revision yesterday, organizing and most importantly, pulling the text that had been used in three separate articles (this one, Judaism and violence, and The Bible and violence) and that had drifted apart in each of those articles,-- I pulled them mostly into one place, and focused that content here more clearly on what is judaism. (christians have this crazy way of conflating what is in their "old testament" with "judaism" which is.. just crazy). I pretty much re-worked the body. I ignored the lead until I was done with the body and then wrote a new one -- per WP:LEAD, the lead should just summarize the body and doesn't necessarily need sources, as everything in it should already be in the body, and sourced there. So the lead was not intended at all be WP:OR - it is just summarizing the body of the article. The old lead actually had nothing to do with the body of the former article... it was general statements about judaism and violence - it didn't summarize this article. Happy to discuss. You are right. Christians do generally regard Judaism as what their own religion would have been, absent Jesus and the New Testament. They aren't familiar with the Talmud and how Talmudic teachings affect the Judaic worldview. It is possible that many Jews find this Christian ignorance convenient, as it allows the Christian to regard Jews as a people having a morality similar to their own and gives them the idea that Jews couldn't possibly behave badly toward, or pose a threat to, Christians precisely because of the teachings of Judaism. If you were to acquaint Christians with quotes by Jewish religious leaders on the subject of war, they'd be appalled, and might even deny that any Jew had ever spoken such words. For example: "I don't believe in Western morality: 'Don't kill civilians or children, don't destroy their holy sites.' The only way to fight a moral war is the Jewish way: 'Destroy their holy sites. Kill men, women and children (and cattle). With their holy sites destroyed, they will stop believing that God is on their side." —Rabbi Manis Friedman. The Talmud contains many stories and teachings that Jews probably hope that Christians never hear about. --Jenab2 (talk) 04:25, 1 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
