What do you mean by that? Raskuly (talk) 16:41, 12 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

List of seasons proposal

edit

I'd like to condense the List of seasons section to only display the last five seasons. Of course, the link to the List of Orlando City SC seasons article would still be included so readers can still easily access the club's other MLS seasons that will no longer be displayed on the main article. Merger discussion

edit

Request received to merge articles: Orlando City SC (2010-2014) into Orlando City SC; dated: {July 2024}. Proposer's Rationale: {The USL side and MLS side are clearly continuous, Adrian Heath remained the manager and the USL side ended as soon as the MLS side started playing. It's much more useful to think of these as one team.}. Discuss here. Gazingo (talk) 23:15, 16 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

:Oppose. This was already discussed in 2018 and most Wikipedians who took part were opposed and I believe that it's best to keep them separate, as with other MLS teams which had pre-MLS teams. The reason why many people associated with Orlando City continued to be associated with the team after they were brought to the MLS is because the team was not built from scratch, unlike the newest addition to MLS for example. The teams own website clearly declares the USL and MLS club one and the same. https://www.orlandocitysc.com/history Arguing they are different is a silly technicality, especially given that the USL club was founded for the purpose of getting an MLS team in Orlando. FC Cincinnati is one article in contradiction to your claim that all other MLS teams with pre-MLS versions have separate articles. Gazingo (talk) 02:56, 18 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
I didn't claim "all other MLS teams with pre-MLS versions have separate articles". The FC Cincinnati article is the odd one out. Are there other teams that have their pre-MLS time already merged with the MLS article? Raskuly (talk) 03:09, 18 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Not exactly the same scenario but the San Jose Earthquakes are treated as one continuous entity and not split up despite the first iteration's move to Houston along with the entire roster and coaching staff. In this case Wikipedia follows the club's official history of the Earthquakes being on team that went on hiatus. https://www.sjearthquakes.com/club/history I don't see why Orlando City shouldn't follow this example and go by their own club's official history (linked above) and be treated as one team with one article. Outside of soccer there's the Cleveland Browns who both changed leagues like Orlando City and Cincinnati and had an Earthquakes-like scenario with a relocation to Baltimore. Despite this nobody is clamoring for the Browns article to be split into three or the FC Cincinnati article to split in two. As for the other MLS teams I would generally favor a merger of those pages as well, though as seen here I can't quite figure out how to format the merge proposal properly. Support I'm changing my vote because looking over both the FC Cincinnati and San Jose Earthquakes articles, they seem better with the pre-MLS history included. The pre-MLS Orlando City article could very easily be slotted into the MLS Orlando City article with appropriate trimming. Raskuly (talk) 12:21, 18 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
What is the reason that FC Cincinnati gets to be the "odd one out?" AgIaophotis (talk) 18:58, 18 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
