Derivation of New Model Army
editProbably important to get this one right :) but the article refers to the band taking its name from 'Thomas Fairfax's English Revolution Militia' which is not correct (a mistake repeated in the referenced obituary) the New Model Army was established by Parliament in 1645 during the English Civil War (Revolution is normally applied to that of 1688) specifically to replace the mix of local militia and trained bands previously used to fight the King. Fairfax was appointed as C-in-C but the whole point was that it was the first permanent military force in England owing allegiance to Parliament, not the monarchy
This is further referenced in Sullivan's use of 'Slade the Leveller' since the Levellers were a radical group with significant support in the NMA. I don't know how much of this is relevant but the first bit certainly seems to be.
