Calling Dot Com "articulate"
editIsn't calling Dot-com the most "articulate" just code for least black? 208.27.3.153 (talk) 01:14, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
- It is if you're racist enough to believe that "blackness" and being articulate are inversely proportional.--172.190.7.161 (talk) 20:55, 12 January 2012 (UTC)
List of minor characters containing list of major characters
editNitpick: How can a list of recurring minor characters contain a list of major recurring characters? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.162.11.244 (talk) 08:47, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
Odd roleplaying
edit"Tracy and Angie frequently use rather odd forms of sexual roleplaying" is that really encylopedic tone? isn't that more of a value judgement? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.92.70.33 (talk) 05:08, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
- It's an inadequate choice of words. It's a recurring joke that they engage in unusual forms of roleplaying, but it's not treated as deviant in the way that the word "odd" implies, it's just that they invent convoluted situations that seem to be very different from what is thought of as "typical" roleplaying. Cerie's page
editWhy did Cerie's page get merged here? It's better formatted on its own page. - Peregrinefisher 05:13, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
- Cerie got merged here because she is only a minor character. She does not have as prominent role on the show as the characters who have their own pages, she doesn't even have a last name. If she becomes part of the regular cast, then she can get her own page. Fernandobouregard 06:40, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
- I think the deciding factor should be much text a character has. The first four or so characters have so much accompanying text, I think they should put back in their individual articles. Just a formatting concern (and infoboxes look better on their own page too). - Peregrine Fisher 07:18, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:30 Rock season 1 episode 8.jpg
editImage:30 Rock season 1 episode 8.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. BetacommandBot (talk) 19:02, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

Jonathan and Grizz and Dot Com
edit- Do you think that Jonathan and Grizz and Dot Com should get thier own page (well, Grizz and Dot Com would get a combined page)? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.42.92.73 (talk) 04:50, 20 March 2009 (UTC)
- And, do you think Lutz should get his own page, too? He's not main billed, but he's in it as much as the other supporting character, it seems. 75.42.92.73 (talk) 04:54, 20 March 2009 (UTC)
- J52y made a page for Grizz and Dot Com, Jonathan (30 Rock), J.D. Lutz, and Dr. Leo Spaceman, all of whom are listed here. Do these characters really need their own pages? Banjaloupe (talk) 15:37, 12 April 2009 (UTC)
- In retrospect, these character prolly don't. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but there's really not that much information about the characters that warrants their own pages.J52y (talk) 07:26, 11 July 2011 (UTC)

Leo Spaceman
editThere was a move request recently at Talk:Leo Spaceman#Requested move which highlighted a question of notability. Is Leo Spaceman a notable enough character to warrant a separate article? The current article possesses three references at the moment, two of which relate to "Dr. Pepper commercials" with youtube videos. However, he is mentioned near the bottom of the article in the same section as minor characters. He is not a regular or major character, having appeared in just 13 of 80 episodes so far. Unless there is some as-yet-unseen evidence of notability, I think the article should be merged with the appropriate section in the "List of 30 Rock characters". I would have done this but the move request suggests that someone might disagree so it would be more appropriate to discuss this first. Green Giant (talk) 11:30, 20 September 2010 (UTC)
Paul?
editWould now be a good time to create a section for Paul, Jenna's boyfriend starting in season 4? He's been in several episodes now. Kevinbrogers (talk) 07:59, 28 December 2010 (UTC)
Proposed merger of multiple character pages
editAll of these character pages (Jack Donaghy, Liz Lemon, Tracy Jordan, Jenna Maroney and Kenneth Parcell) are nothing but fanpages that contain only "in-universe" material. The WP:notability (fiction) page says "Articles on fiction elements are expected to cover more about "real-world" aspects of the element, such as its development and reception, than "in-universe" details." These article do not mention any 'real world' aspects. They are completely unnecessary and don't need more than a brief overview on this page: List of 30 Rock characters. Comatmebro (talk) 07:41, 4 April 2012 (UTC)
- Oppose I think the characters are notable. I agree that there might not be enough "real-world" elements to articles such as Jack Donaghy, but I think it just needs to be improved upon. Not using this as an argument, but the main characters in other TV series and movie series have their own page, and I argue that only because the article is not up to standard, it should just be improved upon and not merged. See the articles on famous characters such as Gregory House and Adrian Monk, which are all listed as good articles. Kinkreet~♥moshi moshi♥~ 08:46, 4 April 2012 (UTC)
- Comment - Kenneth Parcell recently survived an article for deletion/redirect so I don't think a merge discussion will go anywhere. I do personally think that Jack Donaghy is notable in the real world based on what I have seen of him in areas outside of 30 Rock, followed by Liz who is mostly notable by association with Tina Fey. The rest are questionable though Tracy Jordan is 50/50. I do think all the articles need a hatchet taking to them however, and a blanket removal of most of the fan-site style info wouldn't be a bad thing. EDIT Looking at Jack in particular, it is unsourced but apparently he has won like 12 awards for the character, so that is pretty notable. Darkwarriorblake (talk) 11:04, 4 April 2012 (UTC)
I didn't realize there were so many fictional character pages here. I'm still new though so I'm learning a lot. I'll chock this up to being too bold. Now that I know more info based on your comments I think that Donaghy, Lemon, and Parcell definitely deserve their own pages, but still need work. I think I will take off the merge tags on all of them for now; though the Maroney one might be better off merged. I might start a new one for that later. Thanks for your input guys. Comatmebro (talk) 02:20, 5 April 2012 (UTC)
- Just a note, but there being a lot of character pages isn't really a good thing. Fans make them for anyone, go check out the list of Office characters for the US version. I just recently managed t get 5 or 6 of them merged, for characters that had appeared in 2-3 episodes at most. Same with Parks and Recreation, fans think their characters are super important and need an article but can offer little beyond a run down of events that happened to them in episodes. Being a character or main character in a show should not be justification for an article. I wouldn't, say, give the kids from Roseanne articles, whereas Roseanne and Dan Conner both have significant real world notability, they were huge at the time and still show up as rated examples of fictional couples. Does Alan Harper from Two and a Half Men need an article? No. No he does not. Darkwarriorblake (talk) 10:54, 5 April 2012 (UTC)
- Couldn't agree more on Alan Harper. It has a section about how much he masturbates.. *facepalm* Comatmebro (talk) 00:32, 6 April 2012 (UTC)
Liz Lemon seems notable because she is so closely related to Tina Fey, and Jack Donaghy seems notable because of all the awards won for his portrayal. As for Kenneth Parcell, I think he would be notable if there could be found evidence of his overwhelming sexism having a major effect. Tracy Jordan could be notable considering he was named by Entertainment Weekly as one of the top 100 characters in the past 20 years, but the article needs severe cleanup, including removal of sections such as "notable scenes". I can't see anything to prove Jenna Maroney would be notable unless some new information shows up soon. Brambleberry of RiverClanmeow 18:28, 21 August 2012 (UTC)
Neutrality
editIs it still neutral to say that Dennis's plans are "moronic"? I mean, it's pretty obvious that they are, but I still don't think that it's neutral, as that is sort of a biased word. Just wondering if it matters enough to be changed. Brambleberry of RiverClanmeow 23:27, 17 August 2012 (UTC)
Liz Lemon has two sections
editLiz Lemon currently gets two sections in the article:
- Elizabeth Miervaldis "Liz" Lemon (Tina Fey), the series' protagonist, is head writer of TGS with Tracy Jordan. Jack Donaghy calls her a "New York third-wave feminist, college-educated, single-and-pretending-to-be-happy-about-it, over-scheduled, undersexed, you buy any magazine that says 'healthy body image' on the cover and every two years you take up knitting for... a week."
- Elizabeth Miervaldis "Liz" Lemon (Tina Fey) accidentally becomes Jack's wife off-screen prior to the events of "Mrs. Donaghy". The airline having lost her luggage en route to Jack and Avery's wedding, Liz is wearing newly purchased tennis whites and a "State Department recommended mosquito net" when serving as Jack's best 'man'; Avery, meanwhile was in a black cocktail dress, thus confusing the non-English speaking officiant who nominally marries Jack and Liz.
- At the encouragement of Pete Hornberger, Liz uses her temporary status as Mrs. Donaghy to blackmail Jack into restoring TGS’ full budget, and goes so far as to hold a press conference dressed as Jaqueline Kennedy and sporting a bad Boston accent to announce the couple's five million dollar donation to found The Jack and Elizabeth Donaghy High School for Teen Drama, The Arts, and Feelings. Despite the unintentional, temporary, and platonic nature of their de jure marriage, NBC regulations require the pair to attend an anti-nepotism counseling session with Jeffrey Weinerslav where they realize that their mutual relationship has been the longest and most meaningful relationship either of them has ever had. Jack subsequently names his and Avery's daughter Elizabeth.
- Jack's mother, Colleen, who rarely has a positive thing to say about anyone, takes an immediate liking to Liz in "Hiatus" and advocates her as perfect for Jack.
Why? She is not different characters, merely the same character with a different name. At most, this warrants a comment to discuss the accidental marriage, but should not be written to introduce her as if a different character. It's also bizarre that the second occurrence (which relates mainly to a single episode, I believe) is so much more expansive than the first occurrence which relates to the main protagonist over the entire series. —sroc (talk) 04:36, 24 September 2012 (UTC)
- In the absence of other comments, I've cut down the #Liz Donaghy to this:
- Liz Lemon accidentally becomes Jack's wife off-screen prior to the events of "Mrs. Donaghy". Having lost her luggage en route to Jack and Avery's wedding, Liz wears newly purchased tennis whites and a "State Department recommended mosquito net" when serving as Jack's best 'man'; Avery, meanwhile was in a black cocktail dress, thus confusing the non-English speaking officiant who nominally marries Jack and Liz. Liz agrees to sign divorce papers after using her position to force Jack to restore TGS's budget.
- The #Liz Lemon and #Jack Donaghy sections are still ridiculously short for main protagonists! —sroc (talk) 04:42, 7 October 2012 (UTC)
Brian Williams
editDoes anyone else think he needs a place under the "Recurring GE/NBC/Kabletown employees" section as a parody of himself? He's appeared in numerous episodes throughout the series (including last night's "There's No I in America") and has more than established himself as a reoccurring part. If I added him in would there be any objections? Jg2904 (talk) 03:23, 2 November 2012 (UTC)

editHey, how is there no section on Kevin Sorbo? Robin.lemstra (talk) 14:58, 15 December 2013 (UTC)
Brendon/Brendan Walsh?
editThe link for Brendan Walsh goes to the Wikipedia page of a chef that does not mention any acting or comedy work. Perhaps this should be Brendon Walsh (with an "o")? 74.71.77.184 (talk) 03:39, 1 November 2015 (UTC)

Too "In-Universe"?
editThis entire article is written from an in-universe perspective. Would there be support for removing a bunch of "character attributes" that are actually just single-sentence jokes? Power~enwiki (talk) 04:40, 12 May 2017 (UTC)
An example of a poorly-structured sentence: "The following is a supplementary list of recurring characters—including those appearing briefly in multiple episodes, such as a regularly-appearing writer—about whom little is known."
An example of excessive detail: "Gretchen Thomas (Stephanie March) is a "brilliant plastics engineer / lesbian" and a friend of Jack Donaghy from his rotation in General Electric's plastics division. Assuming Liz to be bisexual if not a lesbian (and maintaining that her shoes are "definitely bi-curious"), Jack sets up the pair on a blind date in "Blind Date". When proposing the idea to Liz, Jack refers to her simply as 'Thomas' (much as he generally addresses Liz by her surname, Lemon), and Liz is thus unaware of Gretchen's gender until meeting her. Despite Liz's lack of sexual attraction toward Gretchen, the two bond over dinner and Gretchen informs Jack that she finds Liz "great" and thinks she looks like Jennifer Jason Leigh. They enjoy a succession of platonic dates until Gretchen expresses that she feels she is starting to chase the straight girl and decides they should stop seeing each other. Liz attempts to make a pact that they get back together after 25 years and start a relationship then if they are both still single (including an offer to let Gretchen "do stuff to [her]" as long as Liz is not expected to reciprocate), but Gretchen walks away."
