Redirect?
editHowdy all. I've reverted a redirect to Skateboarding mostly because I couldn't find a discussion anywhere and the article wasn't nominated at AFD. I don't strongly disagree with a redirect if there is a good reason for it but I thought we should at least have a chat about it first.
The list has helped in directing efforts to create new article for pro-skateboarders so has been useful at various stages. Without a formal inclusion criteria for skateboarders, the list has also helped to define which skateboarders are notable (blue links) and which might be notable enough for creation (the red links) - pro skateboarders with significant coverage enough to determine who their sponsors are.
Anyway, again, I have no major problem with a redirect if consensus is that a redirect would be better. I suppose I'd be more inclined to move the content to a WikiProject Skateboarding page first as a useful resource for project members.

- I strongly feel this article is not good to have.
- First of all, the endorsement list is constantly changing, and its all completely unsourced.
- Second of all, this list covers a small percentage of skateboarding that have wikipedia articles. It detracts from other boarding articles to have it.
- Articles that have so little references are often speedily deleted or redirected.
- Absolutely right, though this is a list rather than an article and so sourcing is often done in-article rather than in the list and if the articles are insufficiently sourced that should be resolved. But in this case, the list includes information not necessarily included in each article and so, yes, there are concerns there.
- If you thought it should be deleted or redirected, did you suggest as much somewhere? I was worried I missed an explanation when you didn't include an edit summary. Stalwart111 00:17, 3 May 2013 (UTC)
Title revision
editWhat do people think about changing the title to "List of professional skateboarders" to make it more accessible and encyclopedic?--Soulparadox (talk) 07:27, 3 May 2013 (UTC)
- Fine by me, but I'm not sure that would entirely address Cospring's concerns above. Stalwart111 07:47, 3 May 2013 (UTC)
- I like the page and I don't think that it does detract from the other articles, as it allows readers to access those professional skaters who have articles in Wikipedia in the one source, rather than having to conduct repeated searches. In fact, having engaged in that process before, this list is actually essential I think.--Soulparadox (talk) 10:14, 3 May 2013 (UTC)
- I tend to agree, which is why I reverted the redirect in the first place. I don't think there would be consensus for that, though I think there is some value in addressing some of the concerns raised. I'm more than happy for you to be WP:BOLD and change the title. - I still think this should be redirected. Soulparadox, if you look in category skateboarders, there are over 200 articles. This article has barely 50, it doesn't make sense because no one will be updating and fixing it constantly. Cosprings (talk) 11:59, 3 May 2013 (UTC)
- That's true, but not all skateboarders are professional skateboarders. Even those who were former professionals, like Jason Lee, are in the sub-Category:American skateboarders but not in this list. This list consists of current professionals not everyone who ever was or anyone who has ever ridden a skateboard. There are plenty of artists, actors, sports-people, etc who might be known as skateboarders and so are categorised as such but are not current (competing) professionals and so are not in this list. I don't know about anyone else but Soulparadox and I have done some work to update the list and have created articles for some of those on the list that were red-linked. - No no no....is Bam Margera an active pro? Cmon....the accuracy of this article will never be sufficient for an encyclopedia. This article should be redirected immediately. The categories are perfectly sufficient. Cosprings (talk) 14:07, 5 May 2013 (UTC)
- Probably not an active pro, no, but he remains listed as a professional skateboarder member of Team Element and so would likely remain on the list on that basis. But if he's not, the answer is to delete that entry, not to delete the whole list. The list is as accurate as we editors make it and you are welcome to contribute productively to its upkeep. To be perfectly frank I still don't understand your personal edit-summary-less deletion campaign but you have been reverted here and elsewhere and your efforts to speedy delete various things have been rebuked by admins. Time to take a step back, read WP:NOTHERE and start discussing some of your edits. Stalwart111 00:55, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
- Also, what constitutes an "active" pro is debatable and depends on one's perspective on skateboarding. On a financial basis, popularity-wise, to those who skateboard with Margera at his property and within the skateboarding community he remains very active. However, his publicity levels have certainly decreased.--Soulparadox (talk) 10:02, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

- LOOK! SP, you are the ONLY person to edit this article since it was created 3 years ago! That should prove how useless and unwanted it is. Cosprings (talk) 13:34, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
- How did you work that out? He's not even the most prolific contributor, let alone the only one - (stats here). Doesn't make any sense at all... Stalwart111 13:57, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
- NM that would be the talk page. Cosprings (talk) 13:59, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
- Okay then, but it wouldn't even be true for the talk page (stats here) where you have more contributions than he does and there are 5 unique contributors. But I'm glad you cleared that up. Stalwart111 14:03, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
How about this?
- Retitle page List of skateboarders - current title has two mistakes - "pro" and "skaters"
- Rework table. Take out all sponsors and replace with YOB, YOD (if applicable), stance, and maybe notes.
Cosprings (talk) 17:59, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
- I'm inclined to think List of professional skateboarders would still be better, so that it doesn't simply duplicate Category:Skateboarders. Stalwart111 22:36, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
- Support move to List of professional skateboarders. (1) In an encyclopedia, "pro" looks unprofessional. (2) "Skaters" also includes figure skaters, ice dancers, speed skaters and ice hockey players (among others).
- This discussion has gone very cold, so {{ping}}ing the previous contributors Soulparadox, Stalwart111 and Cosprings for their current thoughts. Narky Blert (talk) 11:31, 24 August 2018 (UTC)
Agree with Narky Blert. 'Pro Skaters' is misleading as a title. Boardr does a great job with their use of Skateboarders(formal term) vs. Skaters (shorthand). I vote to change this N8610 (talk) 18:35, 25 August 2018 (UTC)
People that are not notable
editI removed people who I believe are not notable enough to appear on this list and also removed Shaun White, as he seems to be solely focused upon snowboarding now (I may be wrong).--Soulparadox (talk) 12:04, 12 May 2013 (UTC)
- O, so you may be wrong, huh? That's a great wikipedia editing policy SP. Great job. Cosprings (talk) 18:01, 24 May 2013 (UTC)
- LOL, Facepalm. Grow up. Stalwart111 02:37, 25 May 2013 (UTC)
List of Skateboard Pros is lacking two new pros
editRecently, there has been two more skaters that became pro. Aaron Kyro and Doug Des Autels became pro for Revive Skateboards and should be added to the list of pros — Preceding unsigned comment added by Candidius (talk • contribs) 17:39, 19 October 2014 (UTC)
- Hello Candidius (talk • contribs): Thank you for this message. I am aware of Kyro and Revive Skateboards, as I watched a series of his webisodes earlier this year, so I understand the backstory of the brand, including the name change. However, both Kyro and Revive are not yet notable enough to appear on Wikipedia—Revive is not the only company to support "pros". This is merely my perspective, so I will post this thread on the Talk page of the article in question as well.--Soulparadox (talk) 04:52, 20 October 2014 (UTC)

BLP issues
editThis page almost certainly violates much of the WP:BLP policy. It should be deleted. 99.152.115.208 (talk) 16:11, 31 August 2019 (UTC)
This is a worthwhile list and should NOT be deleted
editIn my humble opinion, this is a worthwhile and well curated list, shout out to User:Velella and many others. I added citations from the NYTimes that reference professional skateboarders, discussing them as a group or set, therefore fulfilling the wiki-requirement for stand-alone lists. --Wil540 art (talk) 20:29, 22 August 2020 (UTC)
- Probably list of skateboarders is good to be. But the current list is "List of skateboarders and their sponsors" and I think it hardly belongs in Wikipedia in this form.
- I looked 2 other new 2020 Olympic sports (list of surfers and list of climbers), and their lists have birth year, death year, and explanation of what makes them notable. That should be the preferable format here too in MY humble opinion. 109.240.230.91 (talk) 04:51, 2 April 2021 (UTC)
