If WWE and their website refer to a match in capitals (Evening Gown Match as opposed to evening gown match), I think it's pretty obvious that any articles referring to and referencing those matches should follow their scheme. If it was another wrestling promotion which did not set a precedent for capitalizing or not capitalizing, I could see where it would be a judgment call. But since it is their match and they capitalize it, that's the way it should be referred to. If an author's book is mentioned in an article, you can't not capitalize the title and justify it by saying, "Wikipedia doesn't capitalize that." It's not an encyclopedia's place to pick and choose what gets capitalized and what doesn't. Its job should be to strive for 100% accuracy, and not capitalizing a WWE match that WWE always capitalizes is putting your own style ahead of the truth.

The match wasn't even that serious. The only evening gown match that had been taken serious was the one which Sable lost the title to Debra. Everyone still calls that crap! Sable loosing to Debra! Only person that was a match for Sable was Jacqueline! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.215.28.110 (talk) 08:46, 1 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Lisa MorettiIvory (wrestler) – The six years Moretti spent in WWE gave her far more exposure than her one year on the independent circuit or in her early career. LM2000 (talk) 02:41, 6 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

What about in terms of exposure? Plenty of wrestlers spend years on the independant circuit but gain more exposure in WWE. Take Claudio Castagnoli for instance. His article was recently moved to Antonio Cesaro because the exposure WWE gave him in only about a year's time was a lot more than anything he got as Claudio on the indies. Same here, the duration of her early career combined with the one year after leaving WWE is undeniably longer. But she clearly received an uncomparable amount more exposure wrestling on Raw against The Fabuluous Moolah at the peak of the Attitude Era for the WWF Womens Championship under the Ivory moniker than she did under any other ring names combined. So that makes Ivory her common name.LM2000 (talk) 09:42, 6 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
You are taking a very WWE centric view. They are the 800 Lb. Gorilla but not the only game in town. It was 6 years out of almost 30 years in the public eye. Lets look at some of her contemporaries as seen by wikipedia naming, (WWE name first): Sensational Sherri is Sherri Martel, The Godfather is Charles Wright (wrestler), X-Pac is Sean Waltman, Mr. Perfect is Curt Hennig and Sunny is Tammy Lynn Sytch. Trackinfo (talk) 03:48, 7 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
All of those wrestlers also had stints in WCW and/or ECW, though, except for Wright, who had a high profile stint as Papa Shango. McPhail (talk) 11:18, 7 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
I hear what you're saying, Trackinfo, and often argue against WWE-centrism. But in this case, WWE is the only major promotion here (though LPWA is arguable). It'd be different if she'd had a run in AJW, AAA or TNA (for example) under a different name. And no, offending Papa Shango would not be wise. InedibleHulk (talk) 16:49, 7 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
I beg to differ with you on major promotions. GLOW got higher ratings than WWF/WWE's weekend shows in its day. Tina was the champion. Trackinfo (talk) 01:45, 8 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, GLOW seemed pretty big. I didn't watch it, but have read about it. Still, while it may have outscored WWF on Saturday morning, WWF on Monday Nights during Ivory's title reign was undoubtedly hotter than anywhere. I find it closer than my support vote implies, but, as Judge Snyder says, the clown is down. InedibleHulk (talk) 21:12, 8 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
What sources did you look at? I only took a quick glance, but most sources currently in the article actually have "Ivory" in the headline, I saw zero with "Lisa Moretti" or any other name.LM2000 (talk) 03:08, 8 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
Bob means that literally; that other sources don't use a disambiguator. Personally, I think this is a rather novel interpretation of WP:COMMONNAME, and in particular stretches WP:NATURAL much too far. --BDD (talk) 22:25, 13 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

This 2008 promotion has 6 citation needed tags as well as some unreliable/questionable sources such as IMDB. Spinixster (trout me!) 11:15, 14 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
