From or born in Manchukuo?
editI found the wording "from Manchukuo" to be a little odd, especially given the colonial context. I changed to born in, but someone who knows more can change back if they see fit. Cheers, Fredlesaltique (talk) 07:31, 14 June 2021 (UTC)
- I've found a couple refs for it. He was born there. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 23:15, 14 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Nihonjoe: Since some readers may not know where Manchukuo is and assume it's a place in Japan (since it says he's Japanese), I think it helps to clarify it's in present-day China. Cheers, Fredlesaltique (talk) 07:26, 18 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Fredlesaltique: That's what the links are for. If they don't know what it is, they can click the links. We don't provide explanations for linked content. That would make articles ridiculously longer. And (technically), it was a place in Japan back when he was born there. (^_-). ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 16:05, 18 June 2021 (UTC)
- Also, you're edit warring now. Please stop it. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 16:06, 18 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Nihonjoe: I understand your reasoning. However, it's pretty common to put in parentheses the modern place-name for places that no longer exist or have changed name (I can't come up with specific examples right now, but I can send as I find if you'd like). I also dislike an editing style that relies on reading other articles to understand the article or term in question, rather than adapting the article to the audience and using links to learn more. Just—and I mean this with all respect—please try to be open to other ways of doing things.
- These are some other articles if you want to see where I'm coming from: MOS:JARGON, MOS:GEO, and Wikipedia:Make technical articles understandable (specifically under the Rules of Thumb section). Cheers, Fredlesaltique (talk) 00:59, 21 June 2021 (UTC)
- I can understand that, and I am open to doing things multiple ways. However, I think this opens the door to people adding in explanations for anything they think people won't understand. That will make a complete mess of articles and (as I mentioned) make them significantly longer. Since we have an article on the topic, and it's linked there, I don't think we need to have an explanation for it right next to the link. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 15:59, 21 June 2021 (UTC)
- Sure, you don't need to explain everything. I guess I just don't like the "well there's a blue link" mentality (I've seen it elsewhere on Wikipedia), and I try to write so that you can understand or get the necessary context without needing to read another article. That kinda varies by article/section, and the Technical language section in the Manual of Style explains it better than I could. Cheers and thanks for taking the time to hear me out. Mel Blanc moniker
editThe article had a quote, He is considered the Mel Blanc of Japanese voice acting.
, in it. I can find no references to this moniker being applied to him, so I have removed it. If we can find a reference for this, we can replace it. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 23:15, 14 June 2021 (UTC)
