Journey

edit

The use of the word "journey" to describe self-realisation or, often with so-called celebrities, merely the carrying out of a prolonged task has become such a horrible cliché.

Interesting, but little info

I think it's interesting that there is so little on this topic. I feel like this is something that's important to a lot of people - especially women in literature. I would love to see more texts relating to the topic. There are many movie that would fit into this category as well. I also wonder if the definition could be built up a little more to make it more clear to readers. I also wonder if there could be different sections of "self-discovery" that could be explored. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ferryrac (talkcontribs) 02:12, 16 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Well, "self-discovery" is basically a bullshit term. Want to discover yourself? Just look in a mirror or meditate. No need to do it in more fashionable or exiciting ways, unless you just want to get distracted. There's a big overlap with meaning-making and sense-making though. Those terms make more sense and have more related scientific literature than "self-discovery". 178.2.198.155 (talk) 14:49, 26 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Journey of self-discoverySelf-discovery – Broader and more accurate. It does not necessarily involve a physical "journey" and the term is mostly used in a metaphorical sense etc. E.g. it could also be called "process of self discovery" which is a concept that overlaps very much with "journey of self-discovery" but varies from it a bit - simply choosing the more inclusive, and more used term would be best.
