I was actually at the 1970 Wellington Cup and saw Il Tempo beat Highland Rebel by two lengths. Both broke the world record and the great mare Honour Me was third. I have also seen Deep Impact's time posted. To do this, Deep Impact must be one hell of a horse and I take my hat off to him. He is probably the best stayer of all time, and even better than Il Tempo! I have seen a lot of racing since, including the Derby, the Arc and quite a few Melbourne Cups and Cox Plates, including the Bonecusher/Waverley Star contest. However, that Wellington Cup is definitely the best horse race I have ever seen. Wallie (talk) 22:05, 17 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
