Naming?

edit

Why was the naming section deleted? Paula was only the 5th "P" name in the Atlantic and the only storm ever named Paula. I believe it is notable enough to be mentioned... Is there anyone that disagrees with that? Rye998 (talk) 20:25, 12 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

It's not really all that important....the "P" name is misleading since other seasons have had 16 named storms but "naming" wasn't used then. Cyclonebiskit (talk) 21:13, 12 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
Also its not the only storm named Paula - Several TCs in Aus were called Paula, and Paula also just happens to be the name that is being used to describe a warm core system thats moved from the Atlantic to the Med sea over the last couple of days.Jason Rees (talk) 23:31, 13 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Jeff Masters paragraph

edit

I'm not a fan of making up a record like that. We already know Paula's track was extended back six hours (per RBT), and for all we know it could go more so in post-analysis. We also can't say something like "operationally it was the fastest to become a hurricane", because Vince was one six hours after first advisory, and Noel 01 was a hurricane on its first advisory. Hurricanehink (talk) 15:17, 13 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Well, if the record doesn't exist anymore (BT moved back), then why is it still up? The fact is, Paula was a depression was well ahead of when the first advisory was issued per RBT. So, unless there's another very important record which is long and can satisfy a paragraph or 2, then there should not be a section on records. The naming record, which I really don't think is that significant, might be incorporated into another section or something to that nature. Darren23Edits|Mail 00:45, 14 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

MH rewrite

edit

Over the next few days I'll be rewriting the MH. HurricaneFan25 13:47, 28 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Great, good luck! --♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 17:21, 28 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
I'll be combing the tropical cyclone discussions of Paula later. HurricaneFan25 16:49, 29 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
Now I'll be rewriting the whole P/I section. HurricaneFan25 13:46, 30 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
I don't think the Preps and Impact section needs a whole rewrite. I think it's quite good already. The MH, IMO, was the main problem. --♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 13:48, 30 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
I'll be reformatting the references, and check for other stuff in Google News, get a copyedit or two then nominate it for a PR. HurricaneFan25 20:13, 30 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hi

I have done a ce on the History section. The only concern I have is regarding punctuation in the sentence: "Hurricane Paula slowly weakened on October 13 as it drifted towards the north and was impacted by an area of wind shear over the Gulf of Mexico."

If the impact of the wind shear was a contributory part to the weakening, there shouldn't really be a comma. If the hurricane weakened on its own, without the wind shear having an effect, there should be a comma as the wind shear sentence part is incidental/additional to the weakening part. • "from an low pressure area " - were you going for something else here?
  • "with the storm peaking with" - avoid too many "with"s
  • "After convection appeared to increase again" - why "appeared"?
  • Link SSHS somewhere
  • "The National Hurricane Center noted that wind shear would increase during "the next day or so", which would "only allow small strengthening"" - why is this important?
  • "Hurricane-force winds extended only 25 miles (40 km) from the center of Paula, while tropical storm-force winds extended 70 miles (110 km) from the same point" - wouldn't this be more useful at the peak?
  • You mention Nicaragua impact in the infobox, but don't say any. Why? Did you check WMO?
  • Puerto Lempira Airport - link?
  • "locals in the region stated that the winds were stronger than those produced by Hurricane Mitch in 1998" - specifying the region would be helpful here, since Mitch affected the whole country
  • "waves up to 7 ft (2.1 m) pounded beaches, leading to fears of additional flooding" - did they actually cause flooding though?
  • "most of which were in Cancún" - when you refer to people, use "whom", not "which"
  • [1] - waterspouts in the Florida Keys

All in all, good job! --♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 04:17, 6 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
