editAdded "disputed- discuss" as none of the three footnoted articles (1,2,3) mention the listed allegation "that a man came forward in May 2006 claiming that Bennett had raped him while Bennett was serving as an Auxiliary Bishop in Baltimore"
Accusation of sex abuse and partial removal from active ministry
editMarch 11, 2019, a spokesman for Baltimore Archbishop William Lori announced that Gordon D. Bennett was "prohibited from exercising any priestly or episcopal ministry in the Archdiocese of Baltimore and the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston" after it was revealed that a man came forward in May 2006 claiming that Bennett had raped him while Bennett was still serving as an Auxiliary Bishop in Baltimore.[1][2][3] Lori made the decision to ban Bennett from these Dioceses after receiving permission from the Holy See beforehand.[1] At the time this was announced, however, Bennett was still a member California's Jesuit Province.[2][3]
