Are garnishes supposed to be edible or not? Dysprosia 04:18, 17 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Most chefs feel that a garnish must be intended to be eaten. Some do not. Those chefs suck. 206.11.112.251 18:45, 18 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I know it's a short stub, but it's as bad as they come - unreferenced, original research, POV, with a poor tone.--h i s s p a c e r e s e a r c h 15:57, 24 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Both edible and inedible ornaments to a central food item have been used, and called, garnishes. If we're adopting a neutral POV then it seems to me it's best to acknowledge the variations in usage rather than be prescriptive. 68.175.58.77 (talk) 20:18, 28 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Charging same with no garnish

edit

Is it legal to Charge the same for a dish with no (edible) garnish as with it. Say tomato or fried bread--Trammel (talk) 05:23, 25 March 2008 (UTC)?Reply

Yes, of course. Or at least I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't be, particularly in English law. sorsoup (talk) 23:05, 1 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Gornisht?

edit

Is there a source for the gornisht etymology? I have found no dictionary to corroborate this, and, in fact, the etymology given is from old French Garnir. 141.150.214.254 (talk) 23:08, 6 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Cocktail garnish merge proposal

edit

As it is written, I see absolutely no difference between a cocktail garnish and just any garnish although mixed drinks do seem to have a certain noticeable tendency towards garnishment.
Seeing as this is the case, I believe it may deserve to be merged into this page, however as it stands, the topic is not substantial enough to warrant a separate article on the matter; Its just confusing excess serving only to clutter up the disambiguation page garnish.
Also, cocktail garnish has no references. Repku (talk) 01:30, 30 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose Merge The cocktail garnish article incorporates not just food garnishes, but other kinds of (non-food) garnishes, as well, such as umbrellas and cocktail monkeys. The subject matter really doesn't fit here and is best kept as a separate article. Geoff | Who, me? 21:16, 29 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
