The name

edit

So is it La chaîne Disney or Disney la Chaîne? Everything seems to be going both ways; according to the logo, and the CRTC ownership chart for Corus, it's Disney la Chaîne. Should we go with this? ViperSnake151  Talk  20:20, 4 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Merger proposal

edit

I propose that Télétoon Rétro be merged into Disney La Chaîne. Reasoning: merge articles so the history of both can be contained within one article because both channels are the same. Télétoon Rétro did not shut down, and subsequently Disney La Chaîne negotiated carriage rights with television service providers to take over its slot. Télétoon Rétro was rebranded Disney La Chaîne, using the same CRTC broadcast licence and all TV providers automatically got Disney La Chaîne as a result. Therefore, it's the same channel, and to maintain consistency, the articles should be meraged as this is common practice with all other Canadian TV channel articles - when a rebranded occurs, the pages are moved. Examples include The Biography Channel (Canada) to Viceland (Canada), TV Land (Canada) to Comedy Gold (TV channel), Talktv to MTV (Canada), Canadian Learning Television to Oprah Winfrey Network (Canadian TV channel), and the list could go on and on. Proof that it was a rebrand can be seen here: http://www.crtc.gc.ca/eng/publications/reports/BrAnalysis/psp2015/individual/ipsp132.htm musimax. (talk) 16:54, 10 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

  • Support - As per nom. Worth mentioning that at some point Shaw Cable dropped this channel from their service. I vaguely remember this happening sometime after the rebranding. I couldn't find any sources for when this occured. Northwest (talk) 02:10, 11 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • Strongest possible oppose: There is nothing in common between these channels other than some legal technicalities. Those examples are simply not relevant as each is fundamentally still the same channel. The only relevant precedent I know of is Talk:Gusto (TV channel)#Merger Discussion, so I'm pinging everyone else involved in that discussion: User:Bearcat and User:ViperSnake151 Modernponderer (talk) 10:46, 19 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • Neutral: These discussions have gone either way, but the Gusto situation was different because Gusto already existed before M3 was turned into it via a few business technicalities. In this case, I made it separate mainly for consistency with the article on the new Disney Channel (which by contrast, was an entirely new service). It just depends on how awkward it would be to cover it in a merged article. ViperSnake151  Talk  15:04, 19 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • Support. This isn't analogous to the M3/Gusto situation, which was a complex transaction that required different treatment than usual because it represented a transfer of programming and branding between two channels that both already existed prior to the transaction, rather than a channel turning into a completely new thing that didn't already exist — so it was an unusual case with more complex arguments than usual about where it was more natural to split the two previously-existing topics. This is more clearly a conventional rebranding, more analogous to Biography Channel → Viceland or Talktv → MTV than to M3+OldGusto → NewGusto, so it should be handled in the more normal way. Bearcat (talk) 17:10, 19 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • After thinking about it, I Support by virtue of that Corus considers it a rebrand, and so should we for the sake of consistency, even if the programming between the two is radically different. -BRAINULATOR9 (TALK) 17:05, 21 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Given the discussion above, I was looking into doing this, but then noticed that Télétoon Rétro is almost an almost identical mirror image of Teletoon Retro. It seems awkward to allow this content fork to diverge. I can understand the sensitivity of having two pages while the channels were running, but feel that it would now be better for them to be merged instead, given their closely parallel histories. So, that means that I'm proposing an alternative target for the merge. Klbrain (talk) 12:10, 6 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Support alternative target while the suggested merger would be unecessary due to the small overlap between the articles (different programing), merging the French and English version of the channel does seems appropriate since there is significantly larger overlap between these two. Trialpears (talk) 21:30, 21 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Support alternative target due to overlap, as long as we can keep relevant information from both pages. -BRAINULATOR9 (TALK) 21:23, 12 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
