Wording

Regarding the change from "withdrawn" to "retiring", I note that the 2014 article uses the wording "withdrawn candidates and retiring MPs". Schwede66 05:53, 11 January 2017 (UTC)

With the people under the "Retiring incumbents and withdrawn candidates" header, should we indicate who are "retiring incumbents" and who are "withdrawn candidates"? Mattlore (talk) 23:05, 7 February 2017 (UTC)

Paul Foster-Bell

Should Paul Foster-Bell be included as a withdrawn candidate in regards to Wellington Central? He never officially became National's candidate there for 2017, announcing he would retire at the election before National's candidate there was decided and he is a list MP, not the MP for Wellington Central. The latter is what I would define as an "incumbent", the MP elected to represent the electorate, not a List MP who stood there unsuccessfully. What do others think? • I would put Paul Foster-Bell in the same category as Clayton Cosgrove, Hekia Parata and Jono Naylor. All current list MPs who contested electorates in 2014, all not contesting the general election in 2017. Ajf773 (talk) 10:01, 8 March 2017 (UTC)

Notes section

What are the guidelines of what information the "Notes" field can/should contain. At the moment there are a lot of comments in there I would judge irrelevant with regards to the purpose of this page. Having information regarding where candidates have stood previously is definitely relevant to a page on the topic of candidates but are things like "Party co-leader" or "incumbent councillor/mayor"? Those comments seem largely beside the point and are details which are obviously contained within the page of the candidate in question. Anyone else have thoughts on the matter? My 2c: Yes to, contesting electorates (same or different) in previous electorates, notable local government figures. No to contesting list only in previous elections. Party leaders/co-leaders, notable people outside of politics.`Ajf773 (talk) 06:44, 27 March 2017 (UTC)

Withdrawn candidates

Candidates

Melissa Lee and Paul Goldsmith are definitely contesting Mount Albert (New Zealand electorate) and Epsom (New Zealand electorate) as they have hoardings up in those areas. Any internet sources for these two? Ajf773 (talk) 07:43, 23 July 2017 (UTC)

Same with Alastair Scott in Wairarapa. Bennett, Coleman and Scott are all incumbents in their electorate, so would it be safe to assume all electorate incumbents who have not explicitly stated they retiring are running again? Lcmortensen (mailbox) 07:14, 28 July 2017 (UTC)
