Apartheid controversy
editDoes anyone have any information on the controversy surrounding the 1980 games? — Preceding unsigned comment added by MacRusgail (talk • contribs) 20:07, 21 January 2006 (UTC)
In Reply: I have found this webpage http://www.espnscrum.com/scrum/rugby/story/155605.html# This seems to be a pretty credible account of what happened during the apartheid years — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zeusthezealous (talk • contribs) 12:34, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
First use of Lions tag
editThe official Lions website says "The Lions name was coined during the inter-war period, when the emblem on the players' jersey and lapel badges gave them their alternative title." This is earlier that we have in the Wiki article. PaddyBriggs 11:44, 23 January 2006 (UTC)
The fact is, it's not that "some" people in the island of Island object to being labelled "British", it's that the vast majority do. Hence, sensitivity (and respect) is appropriate in this case. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.115.179.66 (talk) 16:41, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
Celtic template
editQuestion: Sorry to bump this up to the top not sure where to add it, but can someone please explain why the page has a Celtic Nations Template at the bottom? This has to my mind very little to do with Celtic Culture, as Rugby Union is not a Celtic game? Surely a Rugby Union template would be better? - I did not add the tag but I'm guessing that it is because Scotland, Ireland and Wales consider themselves Celtic nations and they are three out of four of the component parts. I don't have a particular problem with the template but I agree that its placement is a little strange. Unless lots of other wikipedians feel it should be removed.GordyB 20:43, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
France match in 1989
editI removed the 'tour' to France in 1989 as this one-off match was not a recognised Lions match Ref: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/rugby_union/international/4428321.stm "A British and Irish side played France in Paris later in the year to celebrate the forming of the French Republic in 1789, but several leading players were absent and it was not officially recognised as a Lions team." — Preceding unsigned comment added by Battapieman (talk • contribs) 20:16, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
