edit

I've reworked/created this page based on discussions on the talk page of what is now biomass (energy) (formerly the biomass page), see here: https://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Talk:Biomass_(energy)#Requested_move_5_January_2023 We had decided that it should not be a disambiguation page but a short broad concept article. It'll need further work and improvements EMsmile (talk) 09:45, 13 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

I think such a biomass disambiguation page would be good. I just wonder about the last bullet point: it contains no wikilinks so does it really belong into the list? Maybe it could be merged into the bullet point on "bioproducts"? EMsmile (talk) 09:26, 9 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

I plan to remove this line and add a sourced definition of biomass at the top of the page. Clayoquot (talk | contribs) 07:05, 10 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
I am not sure if a single well-sourced, widely accepted definition will be possible. In the context of ecology, biomass means living organisms.[1] In the context of energy, biomass means matter from recently-living, i.e. dead, organisms.
In the context of energy, there are variations in how biomass is defined, e.g. some say it comes from only plants,[2] others say plants and algae,[3], and others say plants and animals.[4] The vast majority of biomass used in energy does come from plants so I'm guessing the differences probably don't reflect any actual disagreement.
BTW I'm having a busy week so I have not had a chance to read recent comments on Talk:Biomass. Clayoquot (talk | contribs) 05:26, 12 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
