Basketball Arena (2012 Olympics)Basketball Arena – There seems to be no other basketball arena named Basketball Arena in wikipedia. Alternatively, the disambiguator should be "London" rather than "2012 Olympics". HandsomeFella (talk) 17:17, 24 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Basketball Arena (2012 Olympics)Basketball Arena (London) – "London" is a better disambiguator than "2012 Olympics". HandsomeFella (talk) 08:18, 5 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

  • Weak support The fundamental question for me is whether the arena will be used outside of the 2012 Olympics. The answer seems to be yes; the 2012 Paralympics and 2014 Commonwealth Games are cited (there was an unsourced statement suggesting it could be used for the 2016 Olympics (in Brazil!), which I removed because it's absurd). However, the article also says it's a "temporary venue," so it's conceivable that the arena will be primarily associated with its use at the 2012 Olympics. Keep for now, with no prejudice against future moves based on how the arena is used. --BDD (talk) 15:48, 5 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
  • Support Unless the London officials are really stupid, this arena will continue being used even after the games.--JOJ Hutton 16:04, 5 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
  • Support Location is a better disambiguator than an event. Zarcadia (talk) 18:27, 5 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
  • Weak oppose It is indeed intended to be purely temporary - it will be retained for the Paralympics, but after that it will be dismantled and the materials will be reused elsewhere. Telegraph Mail. "(London)" would be okay, but the current disambiguator is more precise. Interplanet Janet (talk) 18:31, 5 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
Well, there are two flaws, diametrically opposed, with the current name. First: if the name here should have a close connection to the Olympics, "2012 Summer Olympics" would be better, since the name of the games are not "2012 Olympics". Second: if it's to be used for the Paralympics too, a name with "Olympics" in it would be too narrow, since the Olympics is not going to be its only use. HandsomeFella (talk) 18:51, 5 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
That could be solved with Basketball Arena (London 2012) -- and it avoids confusion with generic basketball arenas in London. -- 70.49.127.65 (talk) 04:24, 6 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
To complement, the Arena was listed for use in the 2016 Games, but the idea is practically rejected. This source confirms the information. Here's the translation (from Portuguese):

The President of the "Empresa Olímpica Municipal" (EOM, "Municipal Olympic Company" in English), an agency of the Rio city responsible for preparing the Olympics, Maria Silvia Bastos, virtually ruled on Tuesday (26) the use, in 2016, the temporary arena - and removable - the basketball and handball that will be used this year in London. She said the idea may not be feasible due to the cost of transport, reassemble the structure and storage for four years.

The president of the EOM, however, still would not rejected the arena "completely" only "virtually". "Why don't yet have the final determination of cost, transport and storage. These are things that we are still working", she said. The possibility of using the arena gained momentum last week, during a visit by Deputy Prime Minister of the UK, Nick Clegg, at the Maracanã. "Yes, we can use it," had said the State Secretary of Sports, Marcia Lins.

But for Maria Silvia Bastos, though a good idea, the "details" began to make it unfeasible. "Unless we bring the arena are going to be a temporary here, think how many seats we do these things," he said. The London facility has capacity for 12,000 people, but the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) wants to expand the capacity to 22,000 in 2016.

Hmm... if its to be used in 2016 Rio and 2012 London... "London" seems like a poor disambiguator (if this were to be used again)... -- 70.49.127.65 (talk) 07:32, 6 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
Interesting! Since I removed that tidbit when it was unsourced, I'll return it in a bit with that source. --BDD (talk) 14:52, 6 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
How about "Basketball Arena (basketball arena)" then? Just kidding. HandsomeFella (talk) 16:16, 6 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
