editRemoved "for other uses of Alamein" statement. going to "Alamein" brings up disambiguation page. Jackk 04:17, 14 November 2005 (UTC)

Alamein or Outer Circle??
editI'm unsure as to when to say the Outer Circle line became the Alamein line:
- Camberwell to Ashburton closed on 1 May 1897 (current date of Outer Circle line closing)
- Camberwell to Ashburton reopened on 4 July 1898 (current date of Alamein line opening)
- Deepdene to Riversdale reopened on 14 May 1900 (part of Outer Circle line not Alamein)
- Camberwell to Ashburton electrified on 30 October 1924 (could this be the start of Alamein?)
- East Kew to Deepdene reopened on 11 February 1925 (part of Outer Circle line not Alamein)
- East Kew to Riversdale closed on 7 September 1943 (actual end of Outer Circle line)
- Ashburton to Alamein reopened on 28 June 1948

- This also affects if Hartwell, Willison & Roystead stations were on the Outer Circle line or just on the Alamein line. -- ThylacineHunter (talk) 12:11, 18 February 2023 (UTC)
- @ThylacineHunter I'd say when Camberwell to Ashburton reopened (on 4 July 1898). Similar to when the Cranbourne line reopened in the 1990s. HoHo3143 (talk) 23:59, 18 February 2023 (UTC)
- @HoHo3143 that would make the track diagram look like Alamein 2. The Outer Circle line will now need updating to remove things post 1898 like Roystead station. Alamein history will also need to cover the reopenings north of Riversdale to Deepdene / East Kew .

- @ThylacineHunter I think diagram 2 would be best. I may need some guidance with the history section though as this is getting a bit confusing! HoHo3143 (talk)
@HoHo3143 in comparison, Outer Circle 2 will match to this date.

- @ThylacineHunter Ok. You chose the one that you think is best. Once you chose and add it in, let me know any important information so I get the history bits correct. HoHo3143 (talk) 02:43, 19 February 2023 (UTC)
- According to Outer Circle Line webpage, the line closed 1 May 1897. Alamein line must now include the line north to East Kew, Deepdene, Roystead & Shenley. This also means Roystead was never on the Outer Circle line. I'll add the correct route diagrams to both pages. I suggest also updating the Outer Circle line after this one. -- ThylacineHunter (talk) 03:30, 19 February 2023 (UTC)
- I probably won't go ahead and update the OCL page as my main focus is current stations and lines. HoHo3143 (talk) 04:34, 19 February 2023 (UTC)

Alamein railway line → Alamein line – WP:COMMONNAME swap with redirect ThylacineHunter (talk) 07:58, 17 July 2023 (UTC)
- Note: redirects are ineligible to be current titles in move requests, and there is no need to list the redirect, Alamein line, to be swapped. A title swap will happen automatically if the Alamein railway line article is moved as proposed. P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'er there 18:14, 18 July 2023 (UTC)
- Comment Category:Railway lines in Melbourne uses the convention Foo railway line, with the exception of Sunbury line which was moved to that title without discussion by OP (and should likely be moved again, given the ambiguity with Sunbury Line.) OP has also suggested some related moves which should probably all be merged into one discussion. 162 etc. (talk) 15:20, 17 July 2023 (UTC)
- @162 etc. Foo railway line is the format for physical tracks, while the articles in question are services not physical track.
- Reverting this change is like renaming 42nd Street Shuttle to 42nd Street Shuttle railway line. -- ThylacineHunter (talk) 15:44, 17 July 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose, convention for Australian railway line articles where both the physical railway line and the services that operate on it are covered in one article is to use the Foo railway line format. Bagufleat (talk) 03:49, 20 July 2023 (UTC)
- What is the point of RMs? To change convention! We wouldn't be having an RM right now if people didn't want to change the convention. Anyway, the convention doesn't really hold when you consider Transperth lines, such as the Airport line, Perth, Mandurah line, Joondalup line, Fremantle line, Midland line, Perth, Armadale line. In short, your comment doesn't provide any actual reason against this requested move. Steelkamp (talk) 04:57, 20 July 2023 (UTC)
