Mogi das Cruzes (Portuguese pronunciation: [moˈʒi] or [muˈʒi das ˈkɾuzis]) is a municipality in the state of São Paulo, Brazil, located within the metropolitan region of the state capital of the city of São Paulo. The population is 451,505 (2022 census) in an area of 713 km2.[3] It is located 40 km to the east of the city of São Paulo. It was founded in 1560 by the bandeirantes.[4] The sprawling municipality, which includes many rural areas, is the easternmost arm of São Paulo conburbation (built up area) seen on satellite images. César de Souza and Brás Cubas districts are considered the suburban core, center of town and a city within the municipality in a horizontal line east of the built up area of Suzano.

Districts

In telecommunications, the city was served by Companhia Telefônica da Borda do Campo. In July 1998, this company was acquired by Telefónica, which adopted the Vivo brand in 2012. The company is currently an operator of cell phones, fixed lines, internet (fiber optics/4G) and television (satellite and cable).[7]
