Development

edit

In March 2023, Pradeep Ranganathan was reported to be starring in Vignesh Shivan's next directorial project.[9] A few days later, Priyanka Mohan and Nayanthara were reported to have been approached, with the former being approached to be the lead actress and the latter to have been approached to play an important role.[10] In April, the film's score was reported to be composed by Anirudh, while the film would be produced by Raaj Kamal Films International.[11][12] On 18 September, on the occasion of Vignesh's birthday, the project was officially announced. However, neither the production banner nor the cast were revealed.[13] In November, S. J. Suryah was reported to be part of the cast, playing an important role.[14] In early December, Pinkvilla reported that Nayanthara would play the role of Pradeep's sister, while Yogi Babu will play a comedian and the film would instead be produced by Seven Screen Studio.[15]

On 14 December, the company made an public announcement. The title of the film was revealed the same day, along with stills from a muhurat puja, held the same week, and the cast and crew. Suryah and Yogi Babu were confirmed, while Krithi Shetty was announced as the lead actress.[16] Anirudh was chosen to compose the score, in his fourth consecutive film with the director, while Ravi Varman and Pradeep E. Ragav would handle the cinematography and editing respectively. The project marks Vignesh's second collaboration with the production banner after Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal (2022), which also featured score composed by Anirudh.[17][18] On 23 December, Suryah revealed that him and Pradeep were part of the writing team.[19] The film is also produced by Nayanthara via Rowdy Pictures.[20]

Filming

edit
Coimbatore, where the first schedule was filmed.

Principal photography began with the first schedule in late January 2024 at Isha Yoga in Coimbatore.[21] Filming moved to Thirumoorthy Dam in Udumalaipettai by 3 February. The same day, a promotional skit video released by Mohammad Rasool, also known as Sofa Boy, revealed the inclusion of himself, Gouri G. Kishan and Sha Ra.[22] On 11 February, Suryah, through X (formerly Twitter), stated that he had begun filming his portions.[1] The second schedule commenced on 22 March in Singapore. Pradeep and Shetty were reportedly a part of the schedule.[23] After also filming in Malaysia, the schedule concluded by 26 March. Vignesh called it an "unforgettable shooting experience."[24]

The audio rights were acquired by Sony Music India.[25] The first single, "Dheema", is currently being recorded.[26]

Release

edit

The team are reportedly planning to release Love Insurance Kompany in late 2024.[27]

Title disputes

edit

In December 2023, after the reveal of the original title Love Insurance Corporation, initialised as LIC, S. S. Kumaran issued a warning against Vignesh, stating that he had registered the LIC title on behalf of Suma Pictures in 2015. He further stated that an associate of Vignesh had approached him to give the title of the film, but that he denied, and the latter still used it.[28] Soon after in January 2024, the Life Insurance Corporation, who hold the trademark rights to the LIC initials, sent a cease and desist notice to the team, accusing them of trademark infringement and ordered them to change the title at the earliest.[29] This led to the team announcing the new official title, Love Insurance Kompany (LIK) on Pradeep's birthday (25 July 2024).[30]
