This is a photo of John J. Maalouf and it does meet the first criterion of fair use. I searched for free photos of John J. Maalouf to no avail, hence only copywritten images are available. That meets the first subsection of criterion one for fair use of images, "Non-free content is used only where no free equivalent is available..." Having a photo of John J. Maalouf within his article is essential. A photo gives the reader ancillary information about the notable person which not even the most accurate writer could possibly achieve. The photo allows those notable works within the article to be attributed to John J. Maalouf in a clear, complete, and efficient manner, which writing is incapable of doing. That meets the second subsection of criterion one for fair use of images, "Could the subject be adequately conveyed by properly sourced text without using the non-free content at all?"
