Description
English: Fragment of bronze mirror with Chinese characters (clerical script) found in the Xiongnu tomb of Zuun Salaa, Bayankhoshuu, Songinokhairkhan District, Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Excavated in September 2013. Also found in the wooden coffin were deer antlers, dozens of livestock bones, fragments of Han Dynasty-style wooden lacquered cups with script stamps underneath and bark vessels with grain inside. The tomb has been dated to around 200 BC. A total of at least 29 tombs have been found in the Zuun Salaa area, many of which lie within family property lines. Excavations were done by archaeology students of the University of Science and Technology, National University of Mongolia and Ulaanbaatar University with support from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
