DescriptionThe ritual of chauri (fan) waving the Sikh scripture to show respect.jpg
The scripture is covered under the blue cloth, while a Sikh ritually waves a orange chauri over the text.
The chauri waving is also done when the Guru Granth Sahib is being read, by a Granthi (the appointed reader of the scripture), by a person who waves the special fan, called chauri, over the pages. It is a mark of respect.
The chauri is a fan with handle made of wood or metal. The rest is made of animal hair or nylon.
