Title
TOY
Description
English:

Victorian copper alloy toy coin, now worn and/or corroded. The obverse depicts the head of a young Prince Albert, and bears the words H.R.H. ALBERT P.W.

The reverse reads 2 / SIXPENCE / MAKE / 1 / SHILLING in five lines.

It has a milled edge and weighs 1.3 g, with a diameter of 13.44 mm, thickness 1.71 mm.

This particular toy coin probably dates between 1841 and 1850. It cannot be earlier than the creation of Prince Albert Edward (later Edward VII) as Prince of Wales in December 1841, and may have been produced to commemorate this event.

The example images represent a similar toy coin inscribed 12 PENCE MAKE 1 SHILLING. See also LANCUM-F3E7CE.
