Portion used |
Cropped portion, to keep subject as large as possible while keeping overall size low. |
Low resolution? |
Low; scaled to 493px wide, less than the original standard resolution of the base image (3840px wide). Copies made from this will be inferior to the original and unsuitable for illegal uses. |
Purpose of use |
To illustrate the redesign of the USS Enterprise specifically for this film and aid reader comprehension of specific design elements that were revised. In addition, the image is used to illustrate the nebulous, cloudy edge of V'ger and its "whiplash bolt" weapon, and provide a clear visual of how different effects teams pooled their elements for the final composite. The image also illustrates a distinctive "self-illumination" scheme used on the ship models, which was pioneered by effects lead Douglas Trumbull. |
Replaceable? |
This images' publisher has not released any free images which could replace this one. There are no known shots that could show the ship model as it appeared in the film and are free for use, and examples of the special effects will always be non-free as long as the film is. |
