English: Small Magellanic Cloud is a dwarf irregular galaxy satellite of the Milky Way 200,000 ly away - One of the most distant objects visible to the naked eye - 7,000 ly diameter - Once a barred spiral galaxy (disrupted by the Milky Way), still holds a central bar structure - Once a satellite of the LMC, now a satellite of the Milky Way (with a remaining bridge of gas connecting the SMC with the LMC)
