English: River Erosion At this sharp bend on the river Irwell the recent heavy rain and high water level has washed a large section of the embankment away.
This has had a serious effect on the Irwell Sculpture Trail http://www.irwellsculpturetrail.co.uk/trail.asp that runs along side the river.
As you can see at one point the path is only 10 inches wide when this picture was taken and is in a very unstable condition.
A couple of months ago the path at this point would have been wide enough for a car.
