| Description |
English: North Wall of the State Dining Room following its 1902 expansion. Architect Charles Follen McKim -- of McKim, Mead and White -- removed the White House's grand staircase and almost doubled the size of the State Dining Room (1901-1902). Herter Brothers, of New York City, executed McKim's designs for the plasterwork and dark-oak woodwork. Architect Stanford White designed the furniture, which consisted of 50 Queen-Anne-style side chairs, 6 William-and-Mary-style armchairs, a long serving table supported by carved-eagle pedestals, and two matching console tables. The furniture was executed by A. H. Davenport and Company, of Boston. |
