DescriptionMorecambe Promenade Station geograph-2200016.jpg
English: Morecambe Promenade Station - pre-1994 station.
View westward to buffer-stops; ex-Midland terminus of the line from Leeds/Bradford via Skipton, Hellifield and Lancaster. An electric (6,600V 50Hz) service to Heysham had been inaugurated back in 7/08 and extended back to Lancaster in 9/08, but reverted to steam in 2/51. Electric services (6,600V, 25 Hz) were restored from 8/53 until 1/66 (interrupted 10/55 - 3/56). The station (plain 'Morecambe' from 5/68) was closed in 2/94 when the present terminus nearer the town was opened. After 9/58 when Morecambe Euston Road was closed, ex-London & North Western line services were diverted to Promenade: the train in this scene, headed by LMS-type 4MT 2-6-4T No. 42135, is the 14.15 service to Crewe.
