Summary

Description
English: Coloring of the Mandelbrot set based on the length of the orbit before escaping (|z| > 2, but with L1 norm). The set looks like an infinite abyss, hence the name "Mandelbrot's Abyss". Each "layer" is an iteration, in which the point is found to diverge. The points in the set correspond to the infinite abyss. See also: Mandelbrot's Abyss grayscale antialiased (L2 norm).png, the more traditional L2 norm. Note: the use of L1 norm makes it visually interesting for this interpretation, but it does not approximate the set exactly.
