A knife pleat is a sharply pressed pleating, esp. in a skirt of kilt, in which all of the folds are turned in one direction, with each pleat being three (3) layers of fabric thick. (Note: if anyone reading this can improve on the image, say by adding width and depth indicators, please feel free to do so and load the new, improved image right over the top of this one, which is being used in Wiktionary)
